I cannot get rid of threadworms. Please help!

I’m so embarrassed writing this.

I’ve had them for about a year, I have no idea how I got them as my dc are in their twenties. I have tried everything!

We use separate bathrooms and we all have our own towels. We’ve all had the ovex treatment, two weeks apart. I personally have had it (ovex) more often. I’ve followed all the hygiene guidelines, ie washing hands thoroughly, sleeping in underwear, changing bed linens regularly, wiping down surfaces etc - everything (including eating raw carrot and garlic).

I’ve even been to the Gp (before this current crisis hit!) and had a sample tested. It came back negative but I don’t know how that could be as I’m absolutely positive I have them.

I don’t know what to do and, ridiculous as it sounds, it’s getting me down. Any suggestions? Anything at all?

I still remember having threadworms as a 5 year old ( so 30 years ago)

It was so itchy I can remember not being able to sleep

I remember the relief once i had treatment,
I remember the look of them

Sometimes itchy arse in adults can be caused from night time mild anal incontinence/ slight leakage

You're right Mustbe, ovex stops the worms from absorbing glucose. I have no idea where I read that about them not being able to cling on! Amazing what sticks in your mind!

Another vote for the Vaseline at night remedy here. We used it without garlic though, I understood that they came out to lay and got trapped in it, so wipe off and shower in the morning

Any improvement? (I’m culling my Watched Threads list but do hope you found some relief!)

I have no solution but I also remember having this as a child (and no one really believed me) so - solidarity.
If it gives you hope I think mine went away on its own but sounds like you’re doing all the things so I’m sure you’ll kill them all.
People who think it’s bog roll can’t have experienced the horror of the worms.

No improvement :(. I’ve got some of the cream recommended upthread and I’ve taken a couple of doses of ovex. My pumpkin seeds are missing in action though!

@Susay Have you managed to get rid of them? Currently going through the same thing here. My stool sample also ca,e back negative but I am seeing them on tissue when I wipe too.

Why can't there be something stronger than Ovex.

first of all I need no evidence for you to say you don't have worms. if you feel you do.

My real story: sorry for long story! i will keep you guys posted if it helps someone or if i resolve them.

I also do have them from last 9 mnths 1Feb2021 and still not resolved, since my husband shook the pants my kids was wearing when he had itching bottom on 31Jan and i was not well that day and was laying on couch with my kid. since then me and my kid have them.

it seems we ingested unseen eggs from air as i had itching on my face at 3 AM of 2nd Feb and got up suddenly scratching my face and washed my face for 20 mins until i felt relieved. and then i checked my sleepy kid and could spot small white dots on his face and took them off using oil one by one because i was sure it will be useless to wake him and wash his face at night he will just cry and cry.

Now till date, I could catch them when they are at least 0.01 cm or human hand can feel kinda (for me and my kid)

i showed to various doctors ENT etc. collected sample with my hand and put it in plastic bag he agreed to it.

ENT gave me spray for my nose I could feel after that I had eaten sand and itching in bottom increased. (i did not give to my kid until i see side effects on myself.)

On 27th Aug 2021 - after 3 days of spray my ear got tinnitus and they started to come of ear too and buzzing starts more when they are big enough to again get caught by my hand so hungry to get come out and search food.

Doc told me they don't go in brain, even if they do only mebendazole/albendazole every day for don't know how many days and how many doses will be needed. so i pray everyday and night every time to get rid of them from me and my kid
And now feel like wishing for you all who are suffering.

so i had to stop spray after i got tinnitus and another doc ENT confirmed that spray could be the cause.

so i am currently going to start homeopathy at least.

The only things that helped me but the problem is not resolved yet are:
*) wash bottoms whenever i feel itchy and night .. , clean my vigina / bottom.
*) cleanliness as you are already doing home/cloth, wash each towel after a single use for all household.
*) eat pumpkin seeds ( yeah i have seen instant effect like if worm is there crawling in my mouth i eat pumpkin seed it stops itching) so i regularly eat them , carrorts or healthy food mainly vegs.

*) and very important clean my nose with oil and and take out all dirt on black cloth so i know the one unseen on my finger is identifiable on black.

*) you may call me crazy but sometimes when i had them in thousands everyday for 3 months i kept jaggery near my head and my kids head that day if i pretend to sleep for 10 mins the new worms babies hatched out and crawling in my nose eye lips used to come out and i could feel their crawling going to that direction wherever jaggery or sugar was (even a pinch was enough for them). so it does not mean it will get rid all but 90%. But not eggs .. so i used to contiue this and my kid the day i did not keep sugar or so, he used to do teeth grinding.

PLEASE anyone who thinks its 2 weeks ovex / albendazole and gone .. YES I AGREE BUT only when you don't store eggs in your lungs or nose-sinus or ear .. God know wherever eggs can hide ..
so the 2-3 weeks works when you have them in tummy and worms only causing other new eggs so you eat another dose to kill new one in tummy. (Note: my kid got them from school 3 yrs back and they were finished in 2 weeks because i got from him too after a week he had and it finished in 2 weeks for me too that old time not this case. so we did not had them from last 3 yrs until on 1st Feb 2021 we got them again as my kid was showing symptoms from 20th Jan 2021 and i got late in giving med and my husband shook his pants :(

if ingested and not in tummy somewhere else where the dose cant reach its difficult.

*) I have tried steam too .. and still try sometimes. its really hard to keep up to doing everything but i try v hard.
its really irritating but we will win someday.
God knows when. i wish we do as early as possible without impacting our other body parts.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR GOD SAKE, ANYONE WHO HAS FACED SEVERE ONE LIKE I DO OR YOU HAD IT LONGER THAN 8 MONTHS OR SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share how did resolved and got rid them completely.
Or is that just time will heal them on its own and if so how long.

I’ve just found this thread that I commented on back in 2020. To my horror that same summer I contracted worms and have been suffering with recurrence pretty much every 6 months since then.
the doctors are baffled and have given me various stronger meds than ovex, only for the worms to return 6 or so months later.
it really doesn’t make any sense as they say the eggs only live for 2 weeks outside of the body. And I’ve even been travelling for a couple of months so thought any that were still alive in my house/bedding would have died. But then they come back!
So I think there’s something internal going on, I’ve started an anti parasite cleanse and will update with the results.
