Holiday things you can recreate at home?!

So, my 25th is coming up and we had booked for the whole family (incl. parents, siblings & partners) to go to Majorca for a week. This would also have been my DD's first holiday, she's 4.5 months old. Obviously now this won't happen and the holiday has been cancelled. I don't usually bother much with birthdays and for the last 6/7 years, I haven't celebrated at all due to various unfortunate events such as deaths and personal illness. I was really looking forward to this one!

So my DH has asked what I would like to do instead and we've decided, given we can't go out, to recreate our holiday at home. So far we plan a full English breakfast outside (we will wrap up if need be!!) with some bubbly, fresh (as fresh as we can get!) baguettes with salami, cheeses etc as this is our usual holiday lunch and then probably a takeout for dinner alongside homemade cocktails.

What things do you do on holiday that you think could be recreated at home during lockdown??

Over eating and daytime drinking.

BogRollQueen · 03/04/2020 15:26

Sangria and some Spanish music on!

Lippy1234 · 03/04/2020 16:08

An hour of reading.
Wear your ‘holiday’ clothes and get changed into something nice for dinner.

KaronAVyrus · 03/04/2020 16:09

Play a game of cards outside with a glass of wine.

Serenschintte · 03/04/2020 16:11

Could you do a zoom with some/all of the people who were coming. With drinks of course.
Watch a funny film. We are saving Tag on Netflix for Ds upcoming birthday.

Smelborp · 03/04/2020 16:18

Camping in the back garden doesn’t quite have the Majorca theme...

Warm paddling pool to diocese your feet in while you drink your cocktail?! Grin

Smelborp · 03/04/2020 16:18

Dip not diocese Confused

HarrietTheShy · 03/04/2020 16:37

A lie in.

whitesoxx · 03/04/2020 16:44

Put the heating on full whack and wear a bikini and sunglasses drinking cocktails, eating olives, meat and cheese and get Alexa to play wave sounds and la bamba Grin

Mumsnet never fails to disappoint! 😂

@Lippy1234 I love the holidays clothes and day drinking ideas - 10000% happening. DD will be in her shorts and vests, heating will be up!

@Serenschintte A video call with everyone would be amazing! I'll definitely arrange that!

Go downstairs at the crack of dawn and drape towels over all your sofas?!!!

Hope you have a lovely birthday Smile

Lippy1234 · 03/04/2020 17:28

eleflump , that made me laugh.

Knittedfairies · 03/04/2020 17:29

I'm not sure how you'll recreate it, but there must be something on the buffet that you don't recognise, or some jelly the colour of Swarfega.

DartmoorChef · 03/04/2020 17:33

Watch the full box set of benidorm

ChikiTIKI · 03/04/2020 17:36

Wear suncream. The smell of it will get you in the holiday mood. Could even stick a bit of sand to it afterwards? 😅

Could play some card games if you like doing that kind of thing with family. Yeah if you have a family video call you could even write a quiz for everyone to do? Could include questions about previous holidays/family events you all attended?

Have fun! Happy birthday 🎂💐

Zisforstripyoss · 03/04/2020 17:42

We're having a minidisco tonight, courtesy of the CD we bought from the First Choice Holiday Village a few years ago. All together now... chi chi wa, chi chi wa, chi chi wa wa wa Grin

Kitchendoctor · 03/04/2020 17:43

Get YouTube on the TV and search for your favourite place. Usually some nice HD images on there. Play in the background!

Find some audio of waves lapping onto a beach.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 03/04/2020 18:02

Face and hair masks in the afternoon to recreate a spa session?! If I was in a hotel I'd book a massage on my birthday.

Definitely afternoon cocktails, probably a pina colada.

Games, drinks and dancing in the evening. I'd probably get "ready" for this as it's your birthday!

Hope you have a great one!

Fedupandpoor · 03/04/2020 18:04

Feed the neighbourhood cats, fall in love with one, name it and make plans to adopt it back to England. Then realise how expensive it is and abandon the plan.

wanderings · 03/04/2020 19:50

I knew someone who would have had a field day with this, she would have loved to pretend that a room was the beach, as suggested by @whitesoxx. When I was about six or seven, she used to blindfold me and take me on "adventures" (in our house or garden). One summer she pretended the garden was a jungle, and got me to walk barefoot through mud, and to find exotic fruit which had fallen from trees. Another time she got me to "fly in a balloon" by lifting me into the air in a basket (I've written about it on MN before).

Funtcase95 · 03/04/2020 21:02

@eleflump amazing 😂

@DartmoorChef like I don't do this weekly anyway.. and I'm being 100% serious.

@ChikiTIKI great ideas!!

@Zisforstripyoss that sounds ace! Enjoy!

@AtLeastThreeDrinks I looove this idea!! Thank you!

@Fedupandpoor multiple times per holiday 😫

Update - not my birthday until tomorrow but due to the weather we celebrated yesterday - my DH did this all as a surprise for me! We drank cocktails & ate cured meats and cheese all day! It was lovely.
