Myself and my friend want to go. How does one even go about organising a trip like that.

We're going a year in October! It's a package with a road trip around Graceland, Memphis and Orleans then a Caribbean cruise. We sat at the Graceland hotel for a nights. I'd Google trips to see what there is.

Unless you are a huge Elvis Fan I would give it a miss. It's hugely expensive and expensive parking and of all of the Deep South I felt considerably unsafe in Memphis.

I did it with may family a few years ago. Like the PP we also did it as a road trip starting in Atlanta then Nashville then Memphis (then we also went to New Orleans but that added a lot to the journey) . The Graceland tour we booked on line. We did the VIP tour and it was fantastic. I would totally recommend it.

I have as part of a road trip. We hired a car and drove around staying at motels mostly. Only organising we did was flights, car and the first nights stay in advance. For Graceland we just turned up on the day and paid entry. This was 10 years ago now though so I dont know if you have to pre-book these days.

Yes - it's wonderful! Not really an Elvis fan but found myself in Memphis as part of a meandering road trip and really enjoyed looking around the house (surprisingly small, the jungle room is...awesome). I also loved Memphis itself (didn't find it at all unsafe) - it's like a small version of NO and the Peabody Hotel with the famous ducks is a must see.

Thank you everyone. We are both lifelong fans and this has been a lifelong dream. We're both 50

If you do Graceland you should do Sun Studios as well.

My Dad is too. He went a few years ago and he loved it. Definitely Sun Studios too, he brought me back a great book on Johnny Cash.

He said that it can be unsafe if you venture off into the backstreets but you are advised about all this by the reps. They were also warned not to wear a lot of jewellery when out and about but not sure if this was because it was a couple of years after Katrina and there was a lot of crime around

I've been twice. The first time was 1996 and we spent a few days in Memphis for Elvis' birthday, and a fewdays in Nashville before heading to New York. Graceland itself is lovely...I've been an Elvis fan since childhood and will admit I got very emotional at his graveside. We went to Sun Studios and Beale Street etc. but did feel very unsafe in Memphis. I don't know if it's any better since then.

The second time was a two day trip on the way home from Texas. Again, I loved Graceland, but didn't like Memphis.

Are you going for Elvis week, or as part of a longer trip?

Rainingdogsandcats · 02/04/2020 14:02

We're not sure yet. I imagine Elvis week will be over priced and stupidly busy
