A menstrual cup question

I bought one like 6 months ago and was brave enough to use it last month, and went ok! But come round to this period, when I came on it was not convenient to get the thing out of the cupboard, go downstairs, boil the kettle, sterilise it, THEN wrestle the thing in, all while chasing after small kids. I just haven’t gotten round to that bit and period nearly over. Any tips? Should I boil it when I know I’m due, so it’s ready when I need it - does it need to be a certain amount of time before? How do you overcome the laziness factor?!

Ahhh @SerBrienneOfHouseTarth, sorry there was no way to say that without sounding critical - should’ve just kept my mouth shut. Is just a bugbear of mine, at work I’ve supported young women who think they need some kind of special vag wash which makes me sad. Well, judging by the experiences of pps here, the advice on the packs does not need to be followed to the letter, and mine didn’t say soap free so I assume normal hand soap is ok. But use whatever feels god for you Smile

I find it has to go in before period starts in earnest, or too much blood is already too far down and just makes a mess for the whole duration.

This is really helpful @jackparlabane, last time I found inserting before a shower and then washing well stopped the sense that there was still a little blood hanging about, but to stop it coming down in first place makes more sense. Like the sound of the app pp mentioned with a reminder, currently I track but relies on me to check. Then I could put it in day before like mentioned, when kids are in bed and have space to focus on it. That was my problem - ten min to boil and insert once period has begun, whilst doing toddler life - just not possible. The wee one would be trying to poke it in for me, she’s already got a fascination with trying to put her fingers in the bum crack of anyone brave enough to be naked around her Grin

@Merename not at all critical, I work in a related field and absolutely agree! Could probably use anything in that case! Thanks :)

I've had mine for years and have never sterilised it. Just a wash in hot soapy water at the end of my period!
