Hair washing

I left mine three days and it was disgusting. Lank, greasy on the top and dry at the ends, horrible.

Yet I’m positive my mother only washed hers once a week.

Is this one of those where the more you wash it the more you need to wash it? How often do you wash your hair?

I wash mine twice a week.

olivehater · 01/04/2020 20:54

I think it depends on the type of hair you have more than anything. I have really greasy hair. I can’t wear it down the day after washing it. It’s fine, slippy, straight, super shiny hair that doesn’t hold a curl well,
I have a friend that gets a weekly blow dry. Her hair is thick, slightly curly and has a much courser texture.

Every day without fail. I can’t bear it otherwise. Both DM and MIL hate washing their hair and put it off as long as possible. In my opinion their hair looks better when it’s cleaner. But it depends what your hair is like - mine is very fine, so it doesn’t hold a blow dry, gets greasy quickly, and is very quick to wash and dry.

It's going to depend on hair type, any scalp issues, etc.

My hair could get away with being washed about once every 5 days, but I have psoriasis on the scalp, and for me that means washing every 3 days, or my scalp gets too itchy.

ItsABitOfAShitFightMate · 01/04/2020 20:56

I wash mine once a week. Have to force myself as I have very low energy. It’s pretty minging by day 3 or 4. I’ve always had quite a greasy scalp.

Mojitomogul · 01/04/2020 20:58

Mines thick and curly but I do straighten it. More expensive shampoos keep it clean for far longer so i do buy them for that reason but sometimes use supermarket ones. Usually wash twice a week. Eg on a saturday morning and then a tuesday/wednesday.

Hannah021 · 01/04/2020 20:58

I wash mine twice a week, it only begins to get greasy by then. I have oily and acne prone skin

Mojitomogul · 01/04/2020 20:59

I have fine hair too but spose cause its curly the texture helps it feeling and looking cleaner. My favourite day is day 2 or 3 haha

Biancadelrioisback · 01/04/2020 21:04

Mine is similar to Olivehater.
Very straight, fine (but lots of it), very shiny and smooth. I have to wash it every day or at least dry shampoo it between washes. Best I can do is every other day but that is a push! I've been trying to wash it less and less for years but it never "takes"

Bobbiepin · 01/04/2020 21:07

Once a week, unless I've done vigorous exercise and got super sweaty. I have dry skin so no greasy hair at all. The last day or two are better in a ponytail but tbh my hair is up 99% of the time.

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/04/2020 21:09

I do mine every 4 days. It’s long, wavy and very thick. If I did it more often the ends would go dry.

Saranvenya · 01/04/2020 21:09

I can go 2 weeks and it is still fine, but thats taken loads of years to get to the point! I didn't wash it for 4 months when I was young and travelling.
I do wash it once a week but it really doesn't need it, I have fine coloured hair but loads of it.

Palavah · 01/04/2020 21:10

My grannies both used to get a shampoo and set once a week (?). Neither washed their hair themselves. Think it was quite common for women of their vintage - short, permed, set - so minimal touching and movement during the week meant it would be much less dirty/greasy than mine which is long and I usually wear loose. Plus they weren't doing strenuous exercise.

MrsT1405 · 01/04/2020 21:23

I force myself to leave it 3 days every now and then and it's horrible. Greasy flat and just not nice. I know people used to have theirs 'done' once a week...ugh.

preponderings · 01/04/2020 21:30

I wash mine every day. If I don't I get horrible spots (from where the hair brushes against my face or from lying on it when sleeping?)

MissisBee · 01/04/2020 21:32

Mine normally needs washed every other day. I'm 6m pregnant and my hair is far less greasy, managing to stretch out to 4 days at a time now.

IceKitten · 01/04/2020 21:33

Mine needs to be washed every 5-6 days. Once a week would be okay at a push.

olivehater · 02/04/2020 07:25

Biancadelrioisback I have loads too. Takes forever to dry, which isn’t ideal when you have to wash regularly. I have two professional hairdryers which I use at the same time to speed things up if not styling it properly. I also like the aveda dry shampoo (shampure) for anyone interested. I sometimes use if I have washed in the morning and want to wear it down in the evening as even by then it’s starting to feel a little more limp. It’s more like a talc and doesn’t have that Nasty artificial smell bastise does.

iwanttoshakesomeppl · 02/04/2020 07:37

I use to wash it everyday but I've stopped to every 3 days whilst on lockdown and I've noticed within a week it's not getting as greasy quickly.
