I'm writing mine a list each day of tasks and activities. He must complete at least 5 to earn 1 hour on xbox after "school". Additional tasks earn him other small rewards. He can plan his own day and is more likely to do the work properly if he has choices.

Some are straightforward school work, others are art, writing to relatives, caring for pets and plants and researching topics of interest.

I'm out of the house 12h a day at the moment, I don't want to get hung up on timing him and being too rigid. He's a bright boy so as long as he is stimulated and productive I can rest easy.

Afterhours I was planning on no work during the Easter holidays but one teacher has set a task that runs over that period (too much to do in one or two lessons). [ hmm] I may see if my DD will leave it, but like me she's a stickler for rules so if she's asked to do something she will (Yr8) The school did suggest doing subjects in the order on the timetable to prevent them doing their favourite subjects and leaving the dreaded ones!

She's also had to submit work and had comments back or an online grading and most of the teachers are available to ask a query if necessary.
