So...video conferencing, home working, your house and your colleague's houses

Interesting seeing colleagues' houses at the moment - you hear about them but interesting to see them properly.

Plus all the background chat, occasional family interruptions etc

I have tidied up a bit more!

How have people found video conferencing with colleagues?

I love having a nosey at the background!

DS has a really annoying habit of poking his head round my laptop to have a look at who's there. I wouldn't mind but he's 9! Luckily my colleagues just laugh. Their kids are just as bad.

Eleanorshellstrop1 · 01/04/2020 18:05

I'm really enjoying looking at everyone's backgrounds. Some interesting wallpapers and paint! The best part is when children, cats and dogs appear!

managedmis · 01/04/2020 18:06

I made the mistake of logging on from the bedroom (trying to hide from the kids) so loads of 'you look comfy!' comments

Today I made sure the background was presentable AND tasteful

AntiHop · 01/04/2020 18:06

I have my washing rack directly behind where I'm sitting, so I'm glad not to have needed to video call yet!

Thighmageddon · 01/04/2020 18:09

I was listening to dh sat in the living room last week at the end of a conference. They were discussing each other's decor. ''Twas a bit of light relief amongst all the bollocks that is covid-19.

Ricekrispie22 · 01/04/2020 18:48

Well... I found out that one of my colleagues has a Rottweiler after seeing it in the background. I’ll never mess with her again!

SambaMamba · 01/04/2020 18:49

Avoiding nosey fuckers like you lot. I have a plain wall behind me

Pelleas · 01/04/2020 18:50

Another who has a plain wall in the background. Giving nothing away.

Sarcelle · 01/04/2020 18:53

You can fuzz your background on some platforms.

edwinbear · 01/04/2020 18:53

I’ve opted out of video calls. My professional cover at work would be completely blown in about 30 seconds Grin

Mooserp · 01/04/2020 18:55

This is the norm for me anyhow.

If you are using MS teams, you can choose to blur the background if you've things to hide

I want a green background - so I can green screen a background....

I blur the background too but that's because I noticed yesterday how dusty the shelves behind me were.

BlueJava · 01/04/2020 18:58

I don't use the video... "oh sorry, it's been causing bandwidth issues"!

Suniscomingout · 01/04/2020 19:00

You can blur it on Skype too

FurryGiraffe · 01/04/2020 19:01

We use Zoom, so you can use a virtual background: there's one with a tropical beach which is particularly popular!

cortex10 · 01/04/2020 19:02

I have used a scenic photo to set a custom background on Zoom

emsyj37 · 01/04/2020 19:03

Literally zero of my colleagues have their video camera switched on - I thought that was standard???? I'm in shock that people have their cameras on like it's the norm!!!! Shock

SambaMamba · 01/04/2020 19:05

“Things to hide”. No just avoid judgy fuckers

2020nymph · 01/04/2020 19:06

We have been told all calls must be video. I use a virtual background!

DMCWelshcakes · 01/04/2020 19:08

I have an office and work from home all the time so everyone I work with is well acquainted with the backdrop.

I do quite fancy some green screen so that I can put random backgrounds in though.

Snaga · 01/04/2020 19:08

My boss has the most beautiful mural on her wall but everyone else on the team has placed themselves in front of either a blank space or a window. The window is particularly genius because it messes with the camera lighting and makes you hard to see Grin

IHadADreamWhichWasNotAllADream · 01/04/2020 19:10

We do video team catch ups once a day and other meetings are with or without cameras depending on our mood. It’s nice to see people’s faces. Everyone has their cameras facing very bland white rooms - often in loft conversions as far as I can see. Only one colleague refuses to use his camera at all - I’m beginning to suspect he may be a nudist.
