So without any training at all we've started using Teams at work during lockdown. I'm expected to animate / act as producer for the meetings.

Does anyone have any tips to share, any good website links so I can get up to speed with it?

CheshireSplat · 01/04/2020 14:46

If you PM me with your emails address I'll send you a guide a colleague of mine put together.

Happy if you don't want to trust a stranger on t'internet with your email address!

CheshireSplat · 01/04/2020 14:47

Ps we've been discussing at work that Teams has been the most successful IT roll out ever! No training, just get on with it has worked.

LennyPugGoat · 01/04/2020 14:49

It is easy, just remember to turn your camera off if you are still in your Pjs and to mute if you have to tell the dog to stop barking or tell the DC to go away for the hundredth time during the meeting

LucyRipley · 01/04/2020 15:51

Hi @CheshireSplat - I'd love a guide if there's one going - am I ok to PM you my email address?

managedmis · 01/04/2020 18:03

Thanks Cheshire, I've pm'd you 🍷☕

Microsoft Teams Training is great. Videos and how to sheets on everything you need

SheriffCallie · 01/04/2020 19:40

Cheshire, can I pm you too? I’ve been tasked with getting everyone on my team up to speed on msTeams and I’m not in the least techy so it’s a challenge.

Ronia · 01/04/2020 19:46

One ofy Dave features in Teams is that you can blur your background. Saves people seeing exactly what's going on in your home!

PinkSubscriber · 01/04/2020 19:52

Please could someone explain how when I’m displayed on the other persons computer I don’t fill their entire screen and just show up in a small box? Sorry not very technical I know!

Arrakis · 01/04/2020 19:54

Teams is great. Honestly easy to pick up. I also have a chunk of documentation on it.

@managedmis - are you being asked to run Teams Events rather than meetings? I’ve produced a couple of them in the last two weeks and trained people in them too. If it is that, as well as looking at docs I would advise setting up an event and having a play. It’s a bit different to a standard Teams meeting and it’s worth getting familiar with it beforehand. It’s fun, a bit like producing a mini TV program!

Full disclosure: I’m responsible for rollout of Teams in my organisation (not a small one) and have talked about little else for the last couple of weeks. Any specific questions, do ask.

Peachsploosh · 01/04/2020 19:56

We're using it at school. I set work on Assignments but unless the children take a photo of their work & upload it, I can't seem to see it. So, for example, I put a worksheet on, using Word. The children download it, write/type on it & then upload it back to me. I just see the original worksheet but not their writing. What are we doing wrong?

Arrakis · 01/04/2020 19:56

@PinkSubscriber you can’t make that happen, unless you share content. If they click into another bit of the Teams app, the calendar or anything then you will get shrunk down to a window, but they have to do it, not you.

Arrakis · 01/04/2020 20:08

@Peachsploosh - just to check, are you using the Teams section, with groups and channels etc and then the files part of that to upload? That’s just basically SharePoint in the background, so should work, as long as they are using different file names

Peachsploosh · 01/04/2020 20:14

Uploading in to Files is fine but in Assignments you can upload resources. Then people can use the 'add work' feature to upload and I can look at it & comment in the Feedback box so it's not public, it's just for that child. It's really good but I just don't know why some docs aren't uploading correctly. Can't seem to find the answer anywhere online. Maybe they just aren't doing any work... Grin

Peachsploosh · 01/04/2020 20:17

Ah Arrakis, maybe that's what it is. They are just clicking save rather than save as. I'll check again tomorrow. Thank you.

Moo7878 · 01/04/2020 20:51

This made me laugh

Yes, events rather meetings, which is a bit intimidating as there are huge groups! Eek.

I guess that's the difference between creating a 'live event' and just a meeting?

As you say it's good to do a trial run beforehand : I'm still a bit confused as to producer /presenter and who has access.

How do you actually get the doc to show on the screen? You have to be the presenter?

CheshireSplat · 01/04/2020 21:35

Anyone, yes, pm me but bear in mind it's written by a guy in my office, it's not official like! It's his speakers' notes from a webex presentation. Ah, webex, those were the days....
