Where the fuck are they?

DP is self employed and not getting anymore work, he is not entitled to any of the help offered by the government, he can claim ESA (we think)

However, he wants to work and has been looking for other jobs in supermarkets, I keep seeing supermarkets are begging for people, but He has now checked the 5 supermarkets in a 5 mile distant and none of them seem to be hiring, on the internet.

Is it only in stores? On a special site? He was looking a week before the lockdown, as we soon which way this was going and still nothing.

What is he missing? Any other jobs, he might be able to do while this is going on?

I have seen adverts from Indeed jobs website circulating on Facebook but when I click through to the main website they don't show there. So I know what you mean. I guess their normal hiring practices don't work now. I also heard Iceland were inundated with response to their job ads. There are also warehouses and distribution companies urgently hiring near us, and of course care work.

Phone them directly and ask for a duty manager.

I know at least in my local Asda, they arent advertising online as they want an immediate start. You don’t need to send anything, just show ID and away you go.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 01/04/2020 08:51

We’ve been hiring but only in store and not online (it’s usually the other way around).

In our store (the big green one beginning with A) you have to be sponsored by a colleague.

Forgone90 · 01/04/2020 08:52

I think many stores took on too many people when everyone was panic buying... Now there are limits to people on the store and what you can buy they are much quieter than normal...

Fedupandpoor · 01/04/2020 08:54

Coop are hiring people on the spot, just go in with a cv.

kilisibird · 01/04/2020 09:04

I think he may be too late tbh. The huge demand for new staff was a couple of weeks back.

BrieAndChilli · 01/04/2020 09:35

Farms are desperate for labourers to pick fruit and veg
Takeaways and restaurants are needing delivery drivers

Our local supermarket is advertising for night staff (to stock shelves I assume). I found it by googling the supermarket name, our postcode and jobs. It wasn't showing up on the main jobs site. I'm thinking of applying but not sure how I'd manage working nights.

tectonicplates · 01/04/2020 09:46

Yes I've been wondering about this too. Last week there were loads of tales of people getting hired on the spot, but now it's emerging that many people are being turned away, they never get back to you etc. I have no proof, but there's been some speculation they only want to hire younger people so they can pay them less.

ShellsAndSunrises · 01/04/2020 09:48

You need to go in store. They want people now (or last week!) and they want people with initiative. It’s not going through the usual online routes; it’s too slow.

They’ve definitely been hiring a mix of she’s here; but I’m not sure if there are vacancies left, the posters are long gone. People were literally being interviewed and offered jobs same day last week.

supermarketjobs · 01/04/2020 10:08

He couldn't find any of the jobs the week before we were shut down, he has signed up to a farm picker website, but we are not sure how practical that is, as he can't drive and we are going to have to spend his driving lesson money on keeping us afloat, although to be fair its better than spending his tax money at the moment (especially as he can't use it), although that might be the next thing to go, depending on how long this goes on for
