DH has been put on furlough, can he pick up a job at Tesco?

Just that really....would he be overly penalised tax-wise?

He'll earn his 80% for his main job, but could he pick up a delivery driver job, for example, to bridge the gap?

I’ve just read up on this, but as a director who is on PAYE. I can furlough and file any legal filings but not obtain work elsewhere. I believe it’s the same for all PAYE (not the legal filing) so I don’t believe he can, sorry.

If he had 2 jobs and was furloughed for 1 he could still do the 2nd. However I'm not sure if he can now go and get a second one.

If he could get a second job, and im not sure he can, the second job would be taxed at basic rate.

We were told if we take any paid work during the time we are furloughed it is fraud. If you have two part time jobs you can be furloughed for one and not the other, so if in theory he could do both it might be ok (no clash of hours) but it's probably not worth the risk of getting into trouble and losing his 80%.

I think so long as the hours are different it would be ok. If he’s furloughed from a 9-5 job I’m pretty sure he can pick up an evening job. You can be furloughed from one job and keep another so I don’t see why you couldn’t start a new one.

But on my furlough letter it says I have to be ready to pick up my duties with no notice. So definitely not a job that would clash.

I was told I am allowed to get another job as long as it is not in the hours I usually worked for the job I've been furloughed by.

I’m not allowed
