Passover this year

Starts next Wednesday night.

This will be my first ever year of spending it without my parents. They'll be at home with just the two of them.

I'm sure there'll be various Seders going on over Zoom, but let's face it, it's just not the same, is it. Pesach is the time for families to get together.

I don't even think I can buy any matzah in my area that I know of, unless I go for a very long walk. I wonder if anywhere could deliver it but I've probably left it too late.

How about you lot?

I suspect there will be Matzah around here. Unless people are stockpiling it in case of starvation.

Very quiet at the moment, it will be interesting to see if anyone breaks the rules.

DH and I were planning on going to relatives for first night and my Reform shul for second night. Now we're going to do both nights at our flat. Not quite what we had planned! Also it's quite hard to get supplies here - just one Jewish deli in Liverpool, and I'm not sure how well stocked it is. We usually go to Manchester for a big Pesach shop but obviously can't this year.

I would happily watch/join a Seder online but DH is much more observant than me and prefers not to use electronics.

Still, we'll try to make it as festive as possible! DH is Turkish Sephardi so he knows lots of cool tunes.

I have Charoset ingredients so at least I can make some. Apart from that I'm feeling lost. Mind you, at least we were lucky enough to buy some eggs.

Deliveroo are delivering mini seder kits in some areas, worth checking (includes matzoh!)

JohnCo · 06/04/2020 21:20

Amazon have Matzah available.

CulturalDilemma · 06/04/2020 21:28

Amazon can't deliver until a few days time. I can't find anyone who could get it here by Wednesday.

I see matzah sometimes in the ‘ethnic’ aisle of very big supermarkets.

Terralee · 06/04/2020 21:34

Tesco in my area sell matzoh.

CulturalDilemma · 06/04/2020 22:12

I don't live within walking distance of anywhere that sells it. I already know which supermarkets sell it, but it would require a tube journey.

Was very lucky to get a box on a friends delivery. Sainsbos often have it if you know anyone getting a delivery?

I have never actually made Pesach myself.... seems a very grown up thing to do and I took my lovely Seder plate to the in laws last year and have never retrieved it. My little one is just 4 so wasn’t sure whether to bother but decided today to bother (although only eggs in salt water and chicken soup and brownies for dinner, not having a big main as the kids won’t have the appetite). Got a little simplified Haggadah and now really looking forward to it.... the shul are doing a kids Seder on second night via Zoom which will be lovely for my eldest.

CulturalDilemma · 06/04/2020 22:21

I don't know anyone around here getting a delivery.

I am already well aware of which branches of Sainsbury's and Tesco sell it, but none of them are here because I don't live in the right area for it. Usually I would get on the tube to buy it. Really. It's upsetting enough as it is.

No need to be rude? You asked how others were spending it and I answered, and shared how I got matzo in case it was useful.

CulturalDilemma · 06/04/2020 22:27

Sorry and thank you. I'm quite upset at the moment.

Op where do you live in London?

ComtesseDeSpair · 06/04/2020 22:40

Where do you live? I have loads in my cupboard and am cycling here there and everywhere at the moment to deliver groceries to elderly and vulnerable, if you’re anywhere near my routes will happily leave a couple of boxes on your doorstep.

@ComtesseDeSpair
Great minds think alike. 😀
