So when you’ve gone to supermarket, have you been able to get all you need for a weeks meals etc ?
As everything been available?

The best shop I did was at M&S they seemed to be well stocked. Although more pricey than my usual Sainsburys shop, I got it in one shop.
The shelves in my Sainsburys which is quite a large one, literally most off the things are gone or shelves are empty.

How’s your shopping experience? And what shop ?

First shop for a fortnight. The the only thing on my list they didn't have was porridge oats.

MaureenSowerbutts · 30/03/2020 19:55

We have been able to get everything at M&S all well stocked and business as usual.

IpeartreeI · 30/03/2020 19:57

No, not really. Lidl isn't too bad, but still no loo roll, bread, meat, kitchen roll, pasta, eggs or rice to be seen.

goldenorbspider · 30/03/2020 19:58

Yes, couldn't get rice, flour or caster sugar. Went to three different shops. Nation must be baking

Spacerader · 30/03/2020 20:00

We are struggling to get a full weeks shop. We both leave for work at 7, and dont get home until gone 5, time we get to the shop it's pretty bare we usually get enough to last around 4 days. We usually have an online delivery weekly, but there is no hope at all of getting a slot.

And to the lady who said it's possible to get what you need if you are willing to change your habits, that's all well and good if you are available to scout around for hours looking and available to take deliveries. But me and my partner are not. That's why an evening weekly delivery around 8 used to work great for us.

I'm hoping within the coming days, the supermarkets will start re stocking and people will just buy what they need. I am noticing that the shelves are not quite as empty the last few days. So hopefully we can just do one weekly shop again.

TreacherousPissFlap · 30/03/2020 20:07

Waitrose, have been fairly ok all along really. This morning I managed to get both sorts of flour, hand sanitizer and paracetamol #glorydays

pastaparadise · 30/03/2020 20:08

dp did our weekly shop today at the coop, and got everything except loo roll, sugar and eggs. And only smooth peanut butter available which dc won't eat so he left it.

We wouldnt usually do a big shop at the coop as its expensive, but seems much quieter than asda which is the other big supermarket near us. Would normally use more local shops but trying to minimise time out so it's worked ok. Should last us a week at least apart from a milk top up midweek.

PollockBollocks · 30/03/2020 20:09

spacerader hopefully it’s a regional thing and food will filter your way soon. Our whole county seems pretty well stocked now

Asuitablecat · 30/03/2020 20:14

No rice, pasta, flour, eggs, caster sugar, crisps, handbags. 3 weeks and counting.

RandomMess · 30/03/2020 20:15

No because I can't buy enough fresh bread and grit for 2 adults and 3 teens there is always some restriction or other Confused

Spacerader · 30/03/2020 20:17

@PollocksBollocks I hope so. Was in asda earlier and the meat aisle was desolate, a few sad looking chickens, some enormous lambs and that's it.

Very little canned food and currys, could even get a pack of pomadoms to go with my curry.

Plenty of bread and cakes mind. And lots of reduced sweet treats. Chocolate it is for dinner then 😂

FrangipaniBlue · 30/03/2020 20:18

I only do a big supermarket shop once a fortnight and top up bread/milk at our local village shop in between but yes, I went to Aldi on Saturday morning and got everything I had on my list.

Couple of things I had to buy slightly different variants of but that was about it.

I buy a brand of washing powder that Aldi don't sell and haven't run out yet but will do in a week or so, so I nipped in the supermarket next door to save me going out again and noticed that they didn't seem to have ANY washing powders, only liquid and tablets which seemed a bit bizarre!!

ScouseMar · 30/03/2020 20:19

It seems to depend on where you live, we've had deliveries and DPs been doing the shopping since he came out of 'quarentine' and we've been fine getting what we need (a few sensible substitutes in the click and collect).

My family in the south east and London are finding it more difficult.

MrsMGE · 30/03/2020 20:22

Yes, now we do. We go once a week and shop for us and elderly relatives. We proritise what they wish and work around that to comply with the restrictions.

Redcrayons · 30/03/2020 20:23

Aldi had Everything I needed except for Creme eggs and spaghetti. The spaghetti I can live without.

The only gaps I saw were for pasta, rice and flour. The meat aisle was low on stock as was the wine. Everything else seemed normal, including the loo roll.

jay55 · 30/03/2020 20:23

I live alone so don't have the same needs as a family. M&S I was able to get everything on my list apart from bleach and tinned fruit. Though as I could get apples and oranges fresh, that will last a good while I wasn't too worried.
The branch I went in was marking down yogurts and puddings.

It was actually lovely to shop in such an empty shop, with the few other customers being super polite. No line to get in either.

jay55 · 30/03/2020 20:26

@ragged I could only get larger bottles of milk than I'd use so poured some into empty water bottles and froze it. So I'm fine for a few weeks. Obviously not a solution for those who need 8-10 pints and don't have the space.

troppibambini · 30/03/2020 20:28

Yes I did today, the only thing I couldn't get was a whole chicken they did have small ones to be fair but we are a family of six.
I was in Sainsbury's and they even had loo roll!

noblegiraffe · 30/03/2020 20:42

Went to Sainbury’s at lunchtime today, they had loads of loo roll, loads of paracetamol, plenty of fresh meat. Still short on pasta, flour and tinned soup.

granadagirl · 30/03/2020 20:50

Great news, seems a lot better than previous couple weeks.
I may try Sainsburys this week then, it’s just the queuing that’s off putting. The queues look so long, but they probably move quicker than we think (M&S did last week, about 20/30 mins)

I know it’s necessary through, just pisses me off the some people are still walking so close to your or are just stood loitering in the aisles looking and your stood there waiting to get passed !

Everything stocked at my Aldi today including pasta and flour!
The only thing lacking was battered onion rings much to DH's distress when I got home Grin

caperplips · 30/03/2020 20:56

yes we've been fine getting a main shop in Aldi once a week for the past couple of weeks. Dh was able to get everything on our list except four and yeast

GetTheSprinkles · 30/03/2020 20:59

Yes. Large Tesco in greater London.

YakkityYakYakYak · 30/03/2020 21:10

Yes, DH went this evening and managed to get everything on the list except for pak choi. #firstworldproblems I know.

I’m finding our weekly shop is quite a lot more expensive now though. DH spent £120 this evening for a weeks shop for 3 of us (normally about £70). I think mainly it’s because the cheaper brands of lots of products are out of stock so it just really adds up. And he didn’t even buy any bloody snacks for the week, and only one bottle of wine! Shock

starrynight19 · 30/03/2020 21:22

Yes queued up for twenty minutes to get in but got everything I needed except flour.
Only a small selection of pasta , eggs and tinned stuff. But enough for what I needed.
