So when you’ve gone to supermarket, have you been able to get all you need for a weeks meals etc ?
As everything been available?

The best shop I did was at M&S they seemed to be well stocked. Although more pricey than my usual Sainsburys shop, I got it in one shop.
The shelves in my Sainsburys which is quite a large one, literally most off the things are gone or shelves are empty.

How’s your shopping experience? And what shop ?

I got most things at Tesco except for tinned chopped tomatoes and loo roll.

Hoppinggreen · 30/03/2020 19:14

Apart from flour of any kind and mushy peas I got everything I wanted

AvocadoPrime · 30/03/2020 19:15

Yes at Aldi on Sunday. Very well stocked!

DrWAnker · 30/03/2020 19:17

I did our last big shop 2 1/2 weeks ago in Tesco and they had no tinned veg, pasta or normal rice but plenty packet stuff. Also very little fresh meat.
Topped up with a Costco run as I normally do but bought a little more Wine than usual. They were low on bread and specific fruit I buy I couldn't get.
Nipped to Asda yesterday for bread and and bits and it was pretty shit tbh.
So we could manage but tbh with everyone at home we are like a pack of locusts and it doesn't seem to last as long as usual.

ihearttc · 30/03/2020 19:19

I did a big shop in Tesco on Saturday and managed to get everything I needed...even tinned tomatoes. No queue to get in but a huge queue to pay which was fine (I was chatting to ladies in the queue as well).

I managed to get a 24 pack of toilet roll last week so won’t need any for a while.

browzingss · 30/03/2020 19:20

In my recent experience, M&S has been better stocked than Sainsbury’s and Tesco. I think the other two are just more popular in my area. Luckily M&S is my preferred supermarket but it certainly can be more expensive, particularly as I’m buying more food (as we’re not eating out at all eg at work). I would have been more happy being able to do a cheaper shop at Tesco

goose1964 · 30/03/2020 19:22

Went to Tesco today , the only thing missing from the shelves was flour, everything else including loo roll.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/03/2020 19:24

DH got everything on the list I gave him on Saturday except Coleslaw.

I made the list flexible though- so a list of fruit to chose 3 from, a list of veg to chose from, told him to be flexible on the meat options. He even got a six pack of baked beans- that section was full.

He didn't look at pasta/rice/cereals/flour or cleaning stuff so no idea what those stocks were like. He had to queue for about 20 minutes to get in.

hopeishere · 30/03/2020 19:24

I've been doing my "big shop" at M&S. It's definitely more expensive but the quality is good.

Ylvamoon · 30/03/2020 19:28

I'm ok but with restrictions on some items, I have to be a bit flexible with my dinners... so i have ditched the list.
But then, I am used to only shopping once a week and keeping a cupboard full of basic stables. So far things have not really impacted us on the food front.

Thecatisboss · 30/03/2020 19:28

DH went to tesco this morning at 6. He got bread flour, loo roll and everything else on the list except yeast but I have a sourdough starter so can manage without to make bread.

DinosApple · 30/03/2020 19:30

Tesco deliveries have been fine. A few things that haven't been subbed. But it is understandably at bit pot luck at the moment.

Next delivery is in a fortnight, with an 80 item restriction I should just about get a weeks worth for four. I've had to chop and change what I'd normally get though to stay within that limit (eg instead of loose carrots gone for bagged).

Bunnylady54 · 30/03/2020 19:37

Very impressed with Aldi & may well stick to doing my big shop there after all this is over. DH prefers Asda yogurts & we both really like Asda curries but apart from that, Aldi all the way! I am saving loads too by not doing 2 or 3 top up shops a week & by cooking more from scratch. The only things on my list I didn’t get were Rinse Aid & paracetamol.
We used a farm shop too. The veg was delicious but quite expensive & there was a bit of a hefty delivery charge so I’m going to try a fruit/veg/ fish place a bit closer to home instead. We also got some dried foods from a lovely eco friendly store in the local market ( usually you use your own containers but at the moment it’s all brown paper bags). I even got wholemeal pasta which is impossible to find anywhere. They deliver too for a nominal charge.

PamelaPupkin · 30/03/2020 19:38

Yep Aldi is full of stuff. Except paracetamol.

Bunnylady54 · 30/03/2020 19:38

Just set up a milk delivery ( in glass bottles) & they offer allsorts of other stuff as well & free delivery.

GameSetMatch · 30/03/2020 19:38

I got an Asda click and collect yesterday I’ve never shopped at an Asda before and everything on my list was available I was so happy, I went to pick it up and they had ‘lost’ my frozen food, I asked if they could go re pick it and I could pick it up later but they couldn’t.

If my shop hadn’t of been lost I would of had everything.

Greendin · 30/03/2020 19:42

Went to Tesco yesterday, they didn't have rice, lemons, beef mince, part baked bread rolls, eggs and some chocolate bunnies from the Easter isle. We got enough for the week though, we just had to choose other things.

Yes, surprisingly. We had enough supplies from our last big shop to last us two weeks, and we have been doing some seious meal planning. I was dreading it today, but it was very civilised, and I got everything we needed. I purposely made a list of essentials only, in the hope that others would be doing likewise to avoid the madness we seemed to have last week.
Everyone was observing the rules and being really calm. Still no flour, but I can manage without, as long as the fresh bread and bakery products are available. One couple complained that there were no fresh cream cakes, but the staff have moved onto the bakery section, which is common sense really.

ragged · 30/03/2020 19:43

Those of you who get stuff only once every 2 weeks... do you use UHT milk? I don't see fresh milk that would last > 7 days.

ILoveAnOwl · 30/03/2020 19:44

Everything at tesco today except for mushrooms. Oh,and I could only get peaches in syrup rather than juice, but I expect I'll live!

Callingallbutterflies · 30/03/2020 19:48

Yes. Went to Aldi this morning. Got everything on the list including loo roll. I noticed there was no bread flour but there was pasta.
No queues to get in, but people weren't that great at staying away from each other. Staff were great! I am in North East Scotland... appreciate it could be different elsewhere.

cookingonwine · 30/03/2020 19:49

I am not going to the shops, I am just too scared. I have done a shop on amazon and waiting for my space food to arrive.

thismeansnothing · 30/03/2020 19:51

DH was sent to do our shop back end of last week. Only things on our list he couldn't get was a cucumber, cherry tomatos, bananas, tomato puree, baby wipes. Otherwise he said it wasn't too bad. Had to queue to get in but he said it made it more civilised once he was in.

Annalore · 30/03/2020 19:51

Re milk, I got fresh, Cravendale and UHT, it lasted us two weeks. This week, we only have fresh, and that will last us for a week, until we need to go out for fruit and veg. Milk is freezable too. I keep a two pint carton in the freezer for emergencies. I also have a carton of oat milk in the pantry, emergency supply for cereals.
