Bleeding - not period?

Name change, posting for traffic etc...

Last period was 14th-19th march.
Started bleeding randomly 24th march just spotting and on wiping on and off. Last night and today it's heavier. Like a period - filling pads etc.

My periods are usually bang on normal cycle. Not pregnant and no hormonal contraception.

Can't get through to gp and had been holding off phoning them anyway but am starting to worry.

Any ideas. Should I just assume this is just a irregular period until I can get to a GP?

We haven't had any "irregular period that turns out to be hemorrhaging" threads for a while.

You do need to keep an eye on it but I hope someone with specific advice will turn up shortly.

Is the amount of blood loss heavier than a normal period? What duration is usual for you?

Thanks, Bleeding amount similar to a period. It usually lasts about 5 days

In that case (based on absolutely no medical knowledge) I would wait to see if it stops like a usual period. If it gets a lot heavier (flooding) then seek medical advice.

Remember you can phone 111 for advice.

I don't mean to sound alarmist but there were at least two threads (in the past couple of years?) where the posters thought they were having abnormally heavy menstrual bleeding but it turned out to be haemorrhaging and they ended up in hospital. Or at least that's what they said...

It probably isn't that in your case but it's good to be aware of the possibility.

Any other MNetters remember the circumstances of the past threads?

If its not heavier than normal I wouldnt worry too much, its probably just a blip . If you're worried try and get appointment with your GP. Hopefully next month will be back to normal. How old are you? Could it be early miscarriage or peri menopausal symptons? Or have you changed contraception?

Changingmyname1234 · 30/03/2020 18:46

Thanks for replying. I'm 39.
I did a pregnancy test last month (negative) as had some mid cycle bleeding but nothing like this. (I wondered if it was implantation bleeding) I then had a proper period the one about 2 weeks ago so I don't think it's a miscarriage.

Not been in hormonal contraception for about 5+ years.

Not meaning to drip feed. Last month's random mid cycle bleed was the first I'd had and was much lighter than this time.
