Finger licking page turners, are you going to rethink your habit?

It's such a horrible thing, I hate it when people do this.

Considering that you're supposed to avoid touching your face, putting your fingers in your mouth is even worse. It's unhygeinic even in normal times so why would you do it now?

Customers still licking their fingers to get their bank card/loyalty card out at the checkout. Fucking disgusting

AutumnRose1 · 30/03/2020 12:22

Revolting

Why does anyone ever do this? I stopped loaning books to friends because of it.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 30/03/2020 12:22

Fortunately I mainly use an ereader, but have never done this, particularly after seeing some of the dubious substances bogies on library books. [boak]

Curdsandwhey · 30/03/2020 12:30

Shop staff sometimes lick their fingers to open plastic bags. Ever since they been made to wear gloves at work I've noticed they've all stopped doing it! Maybe they should continue to wear gloves from now on if it stops them from doing it. It's actually quite a relief.

Finger licking page turners EnvyEnvy

They go into the same category as dog earing a book.

Sacrilegious

Giganticshark · 30/03/2020 12:35

I only listen to audio books. Much cleaner

Curdsandwhey · 30/03/2020 13:16

We need to hear from the people who actually do it though. Are they going to change their ways?

AutumnRose1 · 30/03/2020 13:56

Will anyone admit it though?

My friend was shocked when I said no more book lending.

LittleDragonGirl · 30/03/2020 13:58

People still do this? Even before corona virus? Confused
It makes me die on the inside

AutumnRose1 · 30/03/2020 14:04

Little me too!

Oh and finger licking friend ALSO dog ears pages on her own books. She didn’t do that with mine.

Curdsandwhey · 30/03/2020 14:50

Yes, people still do it all the time. It's so disgusting.

Nope. I’ll carry on. I’m going to be the only sane person left when this is over.

AutumnRose1 · 30/03/2020 15:19

Going but why do it all? I’m not worried about the virus, but it’s just gross.

UncomfortableSilence · 30/03/2020 15:26

My colleague does this, we have hundreds of invoices come through each week and she licks every time she goes through them, imagine how many people have touched them before her, it turned my stomach even before all this and before we finished the other week I ordered some of those finger covers to use in the office and offered her some suggesting it may be an idea to use these at the moment....unsurprisingly she looked at me like I had gone nuts Confused

MyBlueMoonbeam · 30/03/2020 15:28

Always thought it was a revolting habit 🤮

IvinghoeBeacon · 30/03/2020 15:31

I’ve never really understood it either. I manage to turn pages without needing to. I know that people who have to count through lots of piece of paper v quickly sometimes have those wet pad and thimble things but I most people aren’t doing that kind of job (certainly not these days)

winewolfhowls · 30/03/2020 15:34

This makes me think of the name of the rose.

FrangipaniBlue · 30/03/2020 15:46

Ok so I'm going to be the first to admit I do it - sorry! Confused

I'm not an every page finger licker, it's only if I've already tried but failed because the pages are stuck together.

In my defence, I only do it with my own books that no one else would ever come into contact with, which is probs my 99% of the books I come into contact with - I wouldn't do it with a library book or something that didn't belong to me.

It seems to happen more with magazines than books though.
