Been ill for a month now

Hi,

Dh, myself and my dd3 have been ill for around a month now and I don’t know what else to do.

It started with sore throats/temperatures and then a cough. It then turned into a sinus type infection with a lot of mucus. Coughing a lot. Mine and Dd is a wet cough and Dh is dry.

We’ve had headaches and generally just achey and unwell.

We’ve all been in lock down for weeks now and Dh is due to go back to work tonight.

Iv rang 111 and they just said to look after ourselves but I feel like none of us are getting better. Dd3 looks drained and hearing her cough at night is awful 😩.

We only have a temp every so often, it seems to come and go.

Help 😩

Can you email your GP or pharmacist?

In the absence of any support, I’d focus on improving your diet as much as possible. Fresh fruit & veg wherever possible, daily multivitamin,,plenty of fluids, no alcohol or smoking, loads of sleep. If you have a sunny warm day, try to get 10 minutes sunshine.

Warm lemon barley helps my ds when he has a cough.
It’s horrible isn’t it Sad

Thank you!

We’ve been taking vitamin c and Dd has multivitamins every day. We all could do with eating for fruit though! Will give it ago. Thank you :) xx

Our household has had similar since mid Feb.

I found warm salt water gargles helped the throat and a salt water rinse (using cooled but still warm boiled water for both) cleared up my constant runny nose within a few days. Obviously those are not an option for your toddler. Have you tried raising the head of her mattress a bit to help with nighttime coughing. Vicks on her chest and back?

We’ve also been taking dispersible extra strong vitamin c (luckily had a few tubes as can’t find it anywhere now). A spoon of extra virgin coconut oil a day and fruit and veg smoothies.

I was told the cough can hang about for 8 weeks. I

sinus rinse that should have said.

TheFaerieQueene · 30/03/2020 10:02

Snap. Exactly the same and my sinuses became infected too (well one side did) so AB’s were thrown into the mix for a week. It’s horrid.

I was ill from 31st Jan to mid March with seemingly endless viral type symptoms including sore throat, fever, headaches mostly when I coughed, dry cough that later became a wet cough, aching limbs, totally knackered for a week where if I managed to get my backside off the sofa to do one thing I then had to go and sit down for the rest of the day.

I am normally fit and healthy, rarely even have a cold, go to the gym regularly and also do yoga. A number of people have told me that they have had similar, where they have been ill for 6 weeks or so.

I'm beginning to wonder if any of it was Coronavirus related but am just assuming it was a series of different viral infections.

HoffiCoffi13 · 30/03/2020 11:27

Exactly the same in our household. It’s been 3 weeks and none of us have been anywhere in that time so thought we’d be getting better by now!

YouSetTheTone · 30/03/2020 15:21

I’ve had this too. Incredibly mucousy! Constant post-nasal drip and it’s made my teeth hurt too. Lots of ‘wet’ coughing. I used to be blowing my nose a lot but now it’s mainly just the post nasal drip/ aching teeth and some coughing. Really hope it sods off soon!!
Have started taking high dose vitamin C and planning on vitamin D too. Trying to get out into the sunshine in the garden when I can. Eat fairly healthily and DS3 (11 months) is finally sleeping better so that SHOULD help but clearly it hasn’t yet. Probably do need to drink less but current circs make knocking that glass of wine in the evening on the head a bit harder (I know, I know...)

Primrose89 · 30/03/2020 15:24

Exactly the same symptoms here! I have 1 or two days when I feel everything better and then I start with a sore throat again, and I've been coughing for so many weeks my ribs hurt. I dont think I've ever been sick for so long, and so mucousy too! Hope you feel better soon OP

Oldraver · 30/03/2020 17:35

I get aching teeth ) think most people do) when my sinuses get blocked

Cazz246 · 30/03/2020 17:44

A few weeks ago, ( pre Covid19) I applied for a job, NHS. Last week, I was invited to interview next week. I obviously accepted as I hate my present job.
I’m presently working from home because of moderate asthma.
I rang the trust HR, to find out the interview policy at the moment, to be informed all recruitment is taking place under normal circumstances.....should I be concerned?
I have only been out about 3 times in the last fortnight for a walk.

Woman31 · 30/03/2020 22:09

Still not let up here. Dh was due to back to work today after 3 weeks but they told him not to come in until cough has gone.

cazz246 Part of the interview process is probably for you to demonstrate your adherence to social distancing,
Scrupulous hand washing, not shaking hands, not touching face etc.

Good luck

YouSetTheTone · 07/04/2020 19:50

Are you better yet op?
I’m mostly back to normal (teeth not aching anymore thank god) but I’ve STILL got godawful postnatal drip. Mucus constantly at the back of my throat! Is this something others still have?

HoffiCoffi13 · 07/04/2020 20:29

YouSetTheTone yes, just over 4 weeks on I still have awful post nasal drip! I’ve also cracked a rib from coughing so much.... absolute agony!

YouSetTheTone · 08/04/2020 10:07

Oh HoffiCoffi13 yes still coughing here too! I think it’s the post nasal drip irritating the back of my throat/ lungs etc. Poor you cracking a rib with it!!
I’m worried about the mucus getting in my lungs and making me vulnerable if I get covid Sad
Going to try regular nasal rinses 2-3 times a day and gargling with salt water (in case Bacteria is having a party in the back of my throat). Will let you know if it helps!

HoffiCoffi13 · 08/04/2020 10:54

Yes I’m worried about that too... my lungs feel so irritated that I think catching Covid now would be a nightmare!
I’ve bought some nasal spray, hoping that helps.
