Making your bedroom a sanctuary

I need a space to escape to that is tranquil and comforting and welcoming, especially now. I want to invest in making my bedroom this space, somewhere comforting to retreat to when the day is done. So far I've got some posh pillow mists and a salt lamp. But I'm stuck for ideas! What works for you?

The best bedding you can afford.

Proper black out curtains.

Gryffindora · 29/03/2020 16:20

Ah yes, lovely soft bedding a must

Good lighting is important! I have fairly lights which help so if I want to make it a cosy space to watch a film in I can dim the lights nicely xx

Making it as tidy as possible. Smile

Clean skirting boards and radiators - get rid of all the dust and fluff that accumulated under furniture. Amazing how much fresher the room will smell.

Gryffindora · 29/03/2020 16:26

You're so right, the room being clutter-free and clean is central!

I’m in the very lucky position that I have a bedroom and a dressing room.
Therefore I have nothing but my bed and bedside tables in my bedroom.
One thing that really makes a difference is pillows. Invest in some large hotel style square pillows, it makes it so comfy to sit up in bed.

Get rid of any crap. Clear stuff off chests of drawers, put things away. No piles of junk around. No TV.

Our bedroom has a bed, a plant, a lamp, an arm chair and the essential oil diffuser in it. Everything else is in fitted wardrobes.

It is a delight

Super clean and no clutter or piles of clothes.
Goose down quilt and pillows
A soft snuggle blanket
Luxurious, clean bed linen
Beautifully decorated walls and stylish curtains with blackout lining
Soft lighting, targeted reading lamp, candles
A music generating device that can be controlled from the bed
A beautiful rug
Season appropriate dressing gowns and slippers
Last but not least: a cat Smile

FlowerArranger · 29/03/2020 16:33

Oh yes, definitely no TV!! Shock

Some lovely throws. Big square pillows. Rugs. Plants. Lots of pictures and oddities. Things only you like. Good lighting for different moods. Rich fabric curtains. The cosiest dressing gown and pjs.

Littleshortcake · 29/03/2020 16:36

Really lovely bedlinen. I have touch lamps (so handy) nice art work & I have a fairy light curtain on one wall. Ours still doesn't feel as nice as I would like to hope to get ideas here

Do a very thorough declutter and deep clean. Then invest in goose down pillows and duvet. Invest in the best quality bedding you can afford, my favourite brand is Fable or Bedeck. If you can get a pure silk pillowcase from Slypp. A really lovely pillow spray like the ones by Temple Spa. Black out blinds and floor length curtains that have been interlined. Every morning while you're in the shower open your bedroom window wide and throw back the duvet to properly air the bed. Then make your bed neatly with pillows stacked library stylr

Gryffindora · 29/03/2020 19:25

Ooh any recommendations for those pillows @flamingoandjohn?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction of who to buy from @peaceanddove. The tip of airing the room with the unmade bed is a brilliant one!

I got my pillows from eBay. I don’t sleep on them, just lean against them.

madcatladyforever · 29/03/2020 19:37

Fsainsburys has some nice stuff. Lovely spring bedding. Hare candles, vases' lamp shades. My bedroom is all bright cheerful spring colours with rugs' throws, candles it really is my sanctuary. I have a desk and computer in the rebut I keep all paperwork in a blanket box out of sight.
