...dry-roasted peanuts. I'd forgotten how tasty they are. High in calories but I try to disregard that and concentrate on the protein benefitsSmile. I haven't had Mini Cheddars for a while either so must revisit there soon.

@LalalalalaLlama.

They were called Mignons Morceaux, I miss them so much.

If I had to choose between an actually meal or stuffing my face with nibbly stuff, nibbly stuff would win every time.

Sexnotgender · 29/03/2020 22:08

Oooh, Mignons Morceaux were AMAZING. Forgotten all about them!

thisislovelyme · 30/03/2020 23:09

BaronessBomburst you absolutely know your nibbles. I want to be at your house.

Pringles take the skin off the roof of my mouth so sadly it's a no.

Forgot to mention M&S giant pretzels. Fabulous for gathering dip but there can be accidents.

I shall throw a virtual party! Grin

Padron peppers are a type of green chilli - one in 10 will be a killer so like playing Russian Roulette! Usually served after shallow fried at high heat and garnished with sprinkling of good sea salt - delicious!

BaronessBomburst · 31/03/2020 00:17

I make a fake version with green capsicum peppers. I chop them into big chunks and fry them with chilli flakes, adding coarse ground salt at the end.
Best accompanied by a rueda or verdejo, crusty bread, and a tin of sardines.

I'm still finishing the bag of dry roasted peanuts I opened the other day. Now I feel inadequate Blush.

When I was a child in the 90s my parents would have little bowls of garlic croutons - they were from bags (in the crisp section of Waitrose!) and were so delicious. Anyone know if these things still exist? (Or indeed ever existed - perhaps I imagined them into being!?)

stophuggingme · 31/03/2020 08:36

Pistachios
Salted roasted almonds
Luxury roasted salted nuts - from m & s in a tub. They are utterly delicious and I can eat a tub in one go
Cheese savouries
Marmite cracker type things
Mini gherkins and walnuts and mini silver skin onions
Tomato, sliced onion, coriander oil and lemon juice salt and pepper / think it’s called katchumba on bits of warm poppadum
Always twiglets

stophuggingme · 31/03/2020 08:38

@Buscake
Yes I remember them
They are sometimes to be found in those foil bags of snack I think ?

FredaFrogspawn · 31/03/2020 08:43

My Drunkle Derek used to call the nibble component of a pre-dinner drinking session the ‘nuts and bolts.’

WildRosie · 01/04/2020 08:09

Tonight, I shall be having my first gin and tonic of the year (I only have it April to September) so here is an opportunity for some nice nibbles, and to finish the peanuts. Bon sante.

Olives, crisps, Bombay mix

SallyWD · 01/04/2020 08:16

Oh and nuts! Love salty pistachios with a G and T.

AdaColeman · 01/04/2020 09:21

Homemade spicy chickpeas are popular here.

MulticolourMophead · 01/04/2020 10:09

Mignons Morceaux - yes, remember those, my mum had a real fondness for them Grin

Holdingmybreath · 01/04/2020 10:19

Some heathen has introduced coconut to Tesco's bombayix, which is how we discovered the Chilli and lime nibble mix, very acceptable with a g&t(This kind of snacking is bad for the waistline but so hard to resist).
I have rediscovered small cubes of cheese as a with drink snack.

AdaColeman · 01/04/2020 16:33

This might lower the tone a bit, but it's any port in the storm ATM. So I'm thinking sliced Babybel cheese dipped in sweet chilli sauce might work.

Grumpbum123 · 01/04/2020 16:36

Manchego

burntpinky · 01/04/2020 16:38

Pain epices (bought in french supermarkets, basically gingerbread) drizzled in honey Zbd rocquefort then grilled. Divine (though can’t have at moment as preggers so can’t have bloody gin either!!!)

burntpinky · 01/04/2020 16:39

Or the sensations poppadums (spare rib or lime/coriander) go down well

burntpinky · 01/04/2020 16:46

I’m now starving and wanting nibbly things and booze. Not a good thread for me to read - it’s like 50 shades of gray for greedy bastards like myself!!!

Sgtmajormummy · 01/04/2020 17:09

I finally found some ice cube bags in my weekly shop today (DS took my ice cube trays for a party at Christmas and I have no inclination to pay €4 for another one) and we’re going for the full pre-dinner G&T experience.
I have lemons obviously, nachos, spicy tomato crisps, ready salted crisps, pistachios, Parmesan cheese fried into a crisp and small slices of salame.

Dinner will be an afterthought!

WildRosie · 02/04/2020 08:11

Rather than buy ice or use ice cube trays, I freeze water in a plastic snap box. The water is already filtered and boiled and cooled twice. The resulting slab of ice has a cloudy middle but is rock hard and crystal clear on the edges. I cut that off to make mini icebergs that don't melt quickly. Something of a labour of love but ideal for someone who doesn't use too much ice.

Or open freeze slices of lemon, then bag them up for future use.
