Downloading Nintendo Switch games

Please talk me through this as though I am a complete idiot!

DD desperately wants Animal Crossing on the Switch, and at the moment buying as a download seems by far the quickest and easiest option. We've never done this before though. Is it just a case of using the Nintendo ID and e-shop? We won't have to take out any subscription/membership to play will we? I'm happy for a one off payment to buy the game but I don't really want to have to join up to any kind of rolling subscription scheme as well! In usual times they aren't big console kids so I think if I had to get a years membership or something overall it might be a bit of a waste.

No you just go to the eshop. Some games like Fortnite and fifa you need to create account for that games making company which is a pain in the arse. I have a long list of passwords on my phone! For Animal Crossing it should be straight forward I think.

I had to do this yesterday.
I paid with PayPal and then unlinked my PayPal account again just in case
It was easy enough

You do need a Nintendo ID for the eshop. But it is just a one off payment for the game to download it. You only need an online pass to play certain games online, but I don't let my DC play anything online anyway.

I have a Nintendo account and use the e-shop on the switch. I have it set up so that I have to put the (very long but memorable for me) password in every time, so the DCs can’t buy stuff without my permission.
The e-shop is easy to use.

Thanks all, very happy DD now as she has Animal Crossing! Have made sure it's set up so I have to enter the password every time on e-shop.
