I've been completely deaf in one ear for 5 weeks now. There's a ringing in it and theres a bit of pressure in it. Just realised over the last week that the area around it is completely numb. Obviously I don't want to bother a gp at the moment. Ive tried Otex in case it was ear wax but didn't make a difference. It started after a horrible bout of flu

How long did you use otex? It’s not unusual after cold or flu to have ear problems. It could be a lump of wax pressing, try olive oil. I do ear syringing & to soften the wax we advise tilt your head, drop some olive oil in the ear & leaveyour head in that position for 5 mins rub the ear to help distribute the oil. Do this 2/3 times a day for a week. The wax often softened enough to wash out in the shower/bath.
It’s also common for ears to feel blocked after illness and this can last for a few weeks even after you have recovered.

Thanks! I did the otex twice a day for 4 days then used the bulb thing to rinse. A bit of wax came out but it didn't make a difference. I'll try again.
