So lots of us have been home educating for a week.. what have you done that you've never done or not since you've been at school?

I assisted in making a collage of a dinosaur skeleton using straws and sellotape (he's rather sweet we've christened him Strawosaurus)

I also had the joy of revising angles and 3d shapes

Finally, I can now write my name in Viking runes!!

I've actually helped my DS with school work. Homework comes home on a weekend and I work all weekend so it's normally DH's job to do it. But I've been homeschooling all week.

Maths of pretty much any type other than basic arithmetic. Thank God for Google! I was woeful at maths at school and it hasn't improved any. I'm rediscovering that I like to draw, even though I'm not any good at it.

He pretty much just did the stuff set for him except maths. He can't do maths.. We had a tutor for about a month before lockdown.
But now it's only me.. Surds, rational denominators, factorisation.. Confused

Venn diagrams. Percentages with multipliers. Hunsuism. Sikhism. The battle of Marston Moor.

It’s not HE. It’s parents muddling through, often while doing paid work.

SimonJT · 27/03/2020 21:52

I didn’t start school until I was 7, this week I learned what a digraph is.

listsandbudgets · 27/03/2020 22:04

That's true Dozer but I certainly seem to be doing a lot of educating at home at the same time.

I think I'll be covering photosynthesis soon too judging from the booklet called "How Plants Grow" that's come home from school

Actually DS may like venn diagrams - he's got that sort of mind perhaps that's a job for next week as well

The whole nation is muddling through :(

DobbyLovesSocks · 27/03/2020 22:12

Long multiplication

I've also had to remind myself what a verb, noun and adjective is.

I've felt a bit dumb this week. Luckily DS and I can laugh about it

I've done fuck all apart from helping with the odd work sheet

I'm still working full time in a non essential factory job and in a single parent so my kids are home alone a lot if the time with my 17 year old. I had 2 days off this week because I was I'll and my bf is going to help out next week as hes now offbut as hes not my kids dad hes under no obligation to homeschool. Thier dad has fucked off with his new gf and not answering his phone.
He did get them to do the garden with him and plant seeds and potatoes on wed

So nooe dunno how the hell I'm supposed to homeschool. I'm too bloody knackered when I get in at 6 and then I have to cook tea and do housework and then the kids go to bed about nine

I refuse to feel crap. No doubt someone will come along and say in ruining my kids lives
