Can I still be Furloughed?

Ribrabrob · 27/03/2020 18:39

I left my job on 12th March, planning to move to another country on 14th March. Due to corona, the country I was due to move to closed their boarders! Still closed as I type. As a result, I’m now jobless while I wait for the situation to resolve.

My old work place are offering employees furlough. Obviously I’ve left, but is it possible for me to seek furlough? I’m reading conflicting advice online, and unfortunately my old company aren’t the easiest to get any response from right now!

Any advice please?

Short answer is no.

Although guidance doesn't clearly say no the spirit of the job retention scheme is that those who lost there jobs (or are likely to) can be furloughed.
An employer might want to risk it but HMRC might not pay out.

Sorry, Missed a bit out there. These that lost jobs due to COVID-19.

I think only employees can be furloughed.
You are not an employee of the company, so wouldn't be eligible.

Martin Lewis recommended asking your old employer.

If you've been dismissed.

Google martin Lewis and find where he suggests employers take you back. Could even send a nice email to employer and copy in link to video.
