Anyone advise on stuck ring/swollen finger?

Hello
So all this hand washing has sparked my eczema off on my hands and fingers, my ring finger has swollen up and I really feel like I need to get my rings off. I have tried icing it (As in ice - not cake decorating 😆) and putting oil on to get it off but still no luck. I have also put weight on since getting married 😏 so that doesn’t help! Should I look to get them cut off somehow? When should I panic?! My finger throbs at different times of the day/night and is worrying me now. I’ll try to attach a photo!

Thank you

Excuse the nail varnish - 8yr old DD did them for me and it’s worn off partially!

Have you tried putting your hand in very cold water for quite a while?

The string trick?

It’s not too bad. Do you have dental floss? Wrap it around your finger incrementally to get the ring over your knuckle.

Otherwise it’s the fire brigade to cut it off- all jewellers are shut

I’ve put frozen peas on it for about half an hour and although the sweeping came down a bit I still couldn’t move it more that a couple of millimetres. The skin under my engagement ring is quite raw and it’s hard to get it over the ridge that has formed

This worked for me too! It hurt a bit and took couple of tries!

MrsCastiel · 26/03/2020 20:46

I think the string trick should work to get them over the fleshy bit of your finger.

Good luck!

Oh and Lush Dream Cream is working for my sore hands. Expensive but it's been a life/skin saver in recent weeks.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 26/03/2020 20:46

Cold water & soap may work. Good luck.

Cheeryandmerry · 26/03/2020 20:47

Dental floss and cooking oil .....my husband had to have his removed over a much more swollen broken finger than that in A and E! It will work if you’re patient.

Fantasisa · 26/03/2020 20:47

I got mine off using cling film. Google saran wrap as I think that is what it is called in America and I followed a YouTube video. Word of warning though, that was four years ago and I haven't lost any weight which means I haven't worn them since Sad

Sophilicious · 26/03/2020 20:47

I tried that with a piece of ribbon earlier, maybe I need something thinner

Stick your hand up in the air & keep it there (above your heart) until it starts to feel weird then keep it up a bit longer then Try the thread trick (if you do t know it google will get you a better description than I can give you! Ring removal thread - should work)

Hope you get it sorted!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 26/03/2020 20:48

X posted with everyone else Grin
Do try the hand up in the air part though that really works

Sophilicious · 26/03/2020 20:49

Ok I will ice it again and give it another go. It makes me feel panicky when it won’t come off when I try! Silly really. But I’ll try anything before I have to get them cut off. Don’t know if the fire brigade would want to help right now for something so silly

try wrapping floss - it's painful but it works

endofthelinefinally · 26/03/2020 20:49

Do you have any hydrocortizone cream and antihistamine tablets?
If so, take an antihistamine, apply hydrocortizone cream, then ice and elevate your arm.
If all that doesn't work, you will need to have the ring cut off. Therefore you will have to ask 111 to advice you where to go for help.

Sophilicious · 26/03/2020 20:50

Yes I have been holding up above my head to also help with the blood flowing.

Yes I have been applying hyrdocortisone to help with the eczema too. Haven’t done the antihistamine- good call!

Cold water and soap worked for me when I trapped my hand in a door. The ring ended up being more of a semi-circle in the end but it came off after a lot of twisting!

Atla · 26/03/2020 21:18

Lots of washing up liquid if you can tolerate it on broken skin. The string trick worth a try too. Any minor injuries unit or A&E could cut it off for you, in normal circumstances - maybe 111 for advice about where best to go?

Devlesko · 26/03/2020 21:21

margarine got mine off.

KellyHall · 26/03/2020 21:24

Olive oil got mine on to my swollen hand when I got married on a very hot Greek beach!

Elieza · 26/03/2020 21:28

Defo cold to make the fingers shrink. My rings almost fall off when my hand is cold in the winter.

BigGlasses · 26/03/2020 21:38

Leave it until tomorrow. The more you try tonight the more swollen it will get and the less likely you’ll get it off. Give it 24 hours, ice it, hand above head and then string trick. Hopefully will work first go.
