Apologies if anyone has already posted this, but starting from April 2nd, the National Theatre will be showing free plays on Youtube, every Thursday at 7pm.They'll be available for a week and will have bonus content.

The plays so far are...
April 2 ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ by Richard Bean, starring James Corden. .
April 9 ‘Jane Eyre’, adapted by Sally Cookson.
April 16 ‘Treasure Island’, adapted by Bryony Lavery. .
April 23 ‘Twelfth Night’ by William Shakespeare, starring Tamsin Greig.

Just thought I'd post if anyone is looking for something different to watch.

Really looking forward to some of these!

SpratsOnParade · 26/03/2020 20:01

Me too. I was hoping that they'd do this, and hopefully there'll be more to come. It's a lovely gesture.

So excited but a real shame they’re starting with one of the worst plays I’ve ever seen! 😩🙈

Thank you for letting us know, something to look forward to.

bellinisurge · 26/03/2020 20:09

Ooooo

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2020 20:17

Good, I'd hoped they might. We normally see quite a lot of Stage to Screen performances, NT and RSC. Of this lot, I've only seen the 12th Night.

I hope the NT follows suit, or are some of their recorded performances already accessible somehow?

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2020 20:17

Duh... I meant the RSC follow suit...

Eve · 26/03/2020 20:20

I saw 1 man 2 Guvnors in the cinema and it was great, really enjoyed it and going to be watching again.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 26/03/2020 20:20

I wonder if theyll do their back catalogue!!!! Frankenstein with Johnny lee miller Blush

CoolCarrie · 26/03/2020 20:48

Ohh Frankenstein with Benedict and Johnny is excellent, highly recommend. ( not for children though)

Witchend · 26/03/2020 20:58

Fantastic.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 26/03/2020 21:05

@CoolCarrie my jealousy is currently overwhelming. I missed it at the theatre then at the cinema and have been desperate to see it since

wildcherries · 26/03/2020 21:06

I'm so hoping for Present Laughter as I missed. Looking forward to these. Jane Eyre was very good.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2020 21:18

I enjoyed Present Laughter the least of the things I've seen, but that might in part have been because the volume was way too high on that screening.

The best - to my surprise - was The Lehman Trilogy.

wildcherries · 26/03/2020 21:30

That's interesting. Lehman Trilogy was very good, I agree.

SurpriseSparDay · 26/03/2020 21:41

The Lehman Trilogy was amazing.

I saw it live-screened last summer, on the hottest day in all history, sitting in a beautifully air-conditioned cinema - from where we watched the theatre audience desperately fanning themselves with anything available. Grin

Weirdly, I often find that if I can’t get to a performance of something I want to see, I always seem to miss the live screening as well.

The RSC are doing this:

Free National Theatre plays on Youtube.
GloriousGoosebumps · 27/03/2020 12:19

In the hope that someone from the National Theatre is reading this thread, I'd like to add my vote for another showing of Frankenstein. Please. Please. Please.

SurpriseSparDay · 27/03/2020 12:20

I’d like that too. Kept missing it.

NuffSaidSam · 27/03/2020 12:23

Thanks for posting, I hadn't seen this, but will definitely tune in.

LaneBoy · 27/03/2020 12:40

I am SO excited for Twelfth Night. That’s the play that made me enjoy Shakespeare (we had an excellent English teacher in year 9, whereas when we’d done Midsummer and Merchant of Venice before they were just... meh)

AND she’s one of my favourite British actresses too! :o

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 27/03/2020 12:43

I saw Jane Eyre when it was originally a two part play in Bristol. It was electrifying! Can't wait to see it condensed.
Also saw 1 man and really enjoyed it. It's great fun. Think the kids will love it.

LaneBoy · 27/03/2020 13:01

Jane Eyre is the first classic I enjoyed too :) we were only studying the first ten chapters in year 8 but I read it all after. Glad to hear the play is good!

Sarcelle · 27/03/2020 13:04

Not a Corden fan, but saw One Man Two Guvnors live at theatre. It was fantastic. My husband hates theatre and Corden but he was laughing his head off. We will be watching this, could do with a laugh.

PoetLauren · 27/03/2020 13:28

I've seen One Man Two Guvnors. It's quite.. slapstick... and even my 13 year old was a bit shocked at some of the things said...
Not a bad night's entertainment though.
