Anyone else's inconsiderate, arsehole neighbours gone to another level of arsehole since the lockdown? Come rant here

Hello,

Honestly, I feel like I'm going mad. I know we all do right now, but bloody hell, it really doesn't make the process any easier living next to selfish twats who think it's perfectly acceptable to have their TV on full until 2am, whilst laughing loudly, banging doors, shouting upstairs/downstairs to each other. They have teenage daughters who appear to be coming and going at will too 🙄 so clearly taking the whole lockdown/pandemic thing very seriously.

I can't tell you how close I came last night to banging on the walls to tell them to STFU! But had to keep reminding myself that we could very well be making the situation worse and I don't want to be getting the police involved with everything going on.

They've always been inconsiderate, but now we just don't get a break from them at all!

Anyone else feel my pain? How do you keep together?!

Thanks.

@DisinfectantDoris

Yes.

I asked them to pick up their dog's dirt/ keep them on a lead indoors and in our garden/accessways.

I just got a look, and they continued telling whoever was on the phone that 'whiteys' are all against them/causing them grief about the dogs (which they're not allowed to have here).

A lot of them are worse than mine.. there’s two but they’re just fecking odd.

One has been sanding from before 6am, dcs are 1 and 14days old so it’s a faint weird noise when they’re quiet but that’s been almost 12hours.

And the other has cut his teeny living room sized patch of grass 3 times today, 5 yesterday.. pretty much if he hears a lawn mower he must join with his. Considering lifting him into our garden mid mow.

Ohnonononononono · 30/03/2020 17:41

(Sorry, that was my rant about my experience of asking my neighbour nicely. And their response, which was bizarre.
Nothing has changed since I spoke to them Angry ).

Dizzygirl00 · 30/03/2020 17:53

Oh god Thankyou for this thread... I have neighbours upstairs and it’s noise constantly, the kids banging on the floor doing bloody karate or dancing/jumping who knows, screaming at each other, doors banging and don’t get me started on the mother she shouts she bangs 😩 they’re driving me to distraction and I’m still working do don’t have to put up with all day even but please give us a break! That goes out to all of them 😔

Richwitch · 30/03/2020 18:15

@LeaveTheBottle It truly is horrendous isn't it. One of them is a hopeless drug addict and one of her children is severely autistic. She can't even look after herself never mind her children. It's horrendous listening to the children getting hysterical when the brother kicks off.

The other side swings between manic hysteria and horrendous lows when she doesn't even open her curtains.

Both sets of children are very much on the social service radar.

We're literally months away from clearing our mortgage so we don't want to move...we want to continue spending our money on travelling as life's too short.

Richwitch · 30/03/2020 18:17

@DisinfectantDoris Just off to pour myself a gin 😂 Nipping into asda just now has tipped me over the edge 😵

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 30/03/2020 18:25

New neighbours moved in the last few weeks

Lovely peaceful street before, new NDN in small house, have two loud, screechy sons. Also play kerby in the street. Nothing worse than the thump thump thump of the fucking football. Mother smokes outside.

The thing is I feel sorry for them, they're crammed into a house (previous owners have been singles or young couples) and it must be really difficult for them cooped up

But still

Daft lad two doors up burning the bags of shit since the skip is closed. Actual shit. He's not right. Gave him a row as everyone had their washing out. Daft bastard.

Few doors down the alcoholic continues to use and abuse prostitutes. Only now we can't keep an eye in case one rings needs ambulance / police. Again. Did hear him doing that retch that alkies do when they can't get a hold of the drink this morning though so hopefully he won't feel up to raising his hand later.

Where are all the fat slobs who watch TV all day? I'd bloody pay for the sky sub if them upstairs would shut up.

PoorlyWeasels · 30/03/2020 20:16

Stupid question but have you ever just asked them nicely to be more considerate?

Are you for real DisinfectantDoris ?

People who don't live next door to absolute arseholes really don't get how utterly soul destroying it is, and come out with gems like this. Our nasty neighbour was 35 years ago, and almost drove us demented. When you dread even the thought of going home because you know what's waiting for you. When you sit up night after night listening to the row and wondering how you are going to make it stop. Then everyone else, even people who can see the effect it is having on your health, come out with gems like "have you asked them to be quiet?" or "well everyone can hear their neighbours".

I believe our neighbour was actually unhinged because after he moved out we were made aware of loads of people he had done it to before. We should have realised when he moved in at 2am, brought all the fixtures from his previous house with him, and told us that his previous neighbours had been very odd, that he was going to be trouble. He was very clever and never ever did it when there were witnesses. We would come home to dead silence and the second we set foot into the house it would start.

The only way to deal with it is to painstakingly keep a factual diary detailing every single incident. The time it started, what happened, how long it went on for, how loud. Every single time. You take that to the EH team at the council and you ask them to come out to record the noise. As long as they come at the right time, they can then serve a notice to the NDN telling them to stop. If they don't, they can confiscate equipment. You can then also escalate.

The day the (home made) For Sale sign went up next door was the day he received the first letter from our solicitor. He knew exactly how far he could go.

Sparklfairy · 30/03/2020 20:26

Next door likes to play the banjo. Alcohol intake seems to have increased too as lots of loud babbling and giggling. I like them though so it doesn't annoy me too much. The performance sneezing I can hear is not great though, you can hear it's not muffled at all so he doesn't cover his mouth and just sprays it everywhere. Always at least 6 times in a row. I feel so sorry for his girlfriend, I think I'd have killed him by now.

Upstairs has always been stompy. Since lockdown he appears to have an obsession with rearranging his furniture, and strange banging/tapping for extended periods.

Tbh if that's the worst I have to deal with I'm bloody grateful!

Richwitch · 30/03/2020 20:37

@PoorlyWeasels We’re having to keep a record of everything with the psycho at one side. When she moved in she told me that her previous neighbours had complained about the noise her son made....but he was ‘just a little boy growing up’. He’s feral! Not helped by the fact she spends most of her day in bed and the rest shouting. We’ve had her spit at me, scream abuse in my face, threaten me....oh the list goes on. She prostitutes herself out and has every scrote you can imagine in and out of the house. She’s clearly mentally unstable and well known to the police. Her landlord won’t do anything and it got to the stage where the police warned her they’d force an eviction if she doesn’t stop.

The annoying thing is she’s much calmer over the winter but come summer then it’s full on noise and trouble. We both work hard in good jobs and shouldn’t have to deal with this sh*t 😩

PoorlyWeasels · 30/03/2020 21:00

@Richwitch Sad I really feel for you.

BlueCookieMonster · 30/03/2020 21:08

@Petiolaris I doubt she’s a ‘selfish bitch,’ as you term her. Just let her know about your concerns, she’s not a mind reader. She probably thinks she’s just being friendly to her neighbours kid.

SharpieInThe · 30/03/2020 22:34

@LeaveTheBottle I'm just glad I'm not directly adjacent.

Most of the neighbours are great. We're looking out for each other, waving out of windows, messaging to see who needs what and who has what to spare. DH has wanted to move, we're on the housing list. But the good neighbours, they're friends and worth their weight in gold.

Daft lad isn't right in the head, I shouldn't have given him a bollocking. But burning poo when there's washing out?! I think it's a How Clean is Your House thing but he won't let anyone help and he has enough capacity to refuse.

Alkie guy has adult services involved. We ring them when we're worried about him.

This thread has actually been very helpful, getting this crap off my chest.

I'm sorry for you all with bad neighbours. It's soul-destroying.

whymewhyme · 30/03/2020 22:43

My tosser neighbour's dogs barking and howling between 2-3am!!!

ALongHardWinter · 30/03/2020 22:46

There's always someone who comes along and says 'Have you tried talking to them?'. Anyone who suggests this has obviously never had to live next door to hellish neighbours! Just saying.......

LeaveTheBottle · 31/03/2020 10:18

So it almost kicked off last night and we're starting to think it's personal.

As soon as we get into bed last night, about 11 -11.30, the idiot literally runs upstairs and puts on music full blast against our wall. Our bedrooms are joining. I heard one of his kids tell him to shut up, but he just started laughing. My daughter is now awake and upset. The music seems to be getting louder and louder our walls are actually vibrating! Angry Honestly, it was like we were in a f@#!ing club! From nothing, to that! There was no build up. It was like a weapon aimed at us.

I banged on the walls really hard 3 or 4 times. Never retaliated before, but was absolutely fuming! It carried on for another 10 seconds or so, but then stopped.

I can hear him downstairs laughing, turning his TV up as loud as possible every now and then, clearly just to wind us up.

So I suspect I've made it worse, but I just couldn't lie there listening to that, not when we know that for some reason he takes delight in upsetting us!

I'll have to call their landlord.
