Is there an online game you can only invite people you know to play? 8-9 yr olds

Is there an online game my 8 year daughter can play that is age appropriate and where she can invite a friend in to play with her (but not randoms from the internet)? I've managed to avoid the world of online gaming to date (hence the ignorance) so a bit clueless really.

She has been video calling friends but I think something a little bit more constructive they can do together might be helpful? All suggestions gratefully received.

Appreciate I need to start getting savvy as she gets older (at the moment I control what she downloads etc).... I am a bit of a golden oldie ..... The last 'video' game I played was Chuckie Egg... I look at all the games on Play Store and just feel overwhelmed.

she will need to download the app (it costs money off the appstore) and set up a Minecraft account. she will then need to click 'friends' and then 'add friend' and then 'find friends by gamer tag' and type her friend's username in. then, one of them needs to click worlds, and then create new and then the pause button at the top of the screen and then invite to game and then click her friend's name

Apparently Xbox has monopoly if you have one?
