Anyone cooking for older neighbours?

We're usually out at work all day so we dont know them beyond nodding hello.

3 ladies in separate houses opposite. I'd guess all in their 80s.

I've put notes through offering to do shopping etc and all have waved and said thanks but no requests yet.

One opened her window yesterday and said she's struggling being on her own but was ok for shopping for now.

Are you cooking for yours? What could I make?

Not financially impacted yet as we're being paid and we have an asda within walking distance.

I'm a bit awkward around people indent know and not sure how to really help?

I asked a few people if they needed some shopping and they readily accepted and each gave me a small list with the basics on like bread, milk, butter, teabags, eggs etc... I then went to the supermarket to buy it along with food for my own family and discovered that I couldn’t buy more than 3 of each item. It didn’t even make any difference if I got three different types of bread! I was still not allowed more than 3 loaves. Decided to give the loaves to the old biddies and am now going to have to be more creative with my DC’s lunches! Wondering whether sandwich thins count as bread?!

Sorry, I didn’t really help with your question. I think at the moment, the most helpful thing you can do is to ring them each evening for a friendly chat. Don’t cook for them unless they ask for it because they might enjoy cooking as a way to pass the time and take their mind off things.

I wouldn't cook for them unless they asked you to. You don't know their likes/dislikes, are they vegetarian, do they have any allergies etc etc.
Maybe drop them in a card with your mobile number so they can contact you if they need to? You are being a good neighbour.

I wouldn't cook for them unless they're not capable of doing it for themselves, because it gives them something to do and keeps them active. Perhaps just stop every day and say hello through the window? I think if people can just do that every day it makes a huge difference.

I agree with a PP about giving them your mobile number. I hope they're all OK.
