My child does NOT listen to me!

My child is really, really getting on my nerves.

She is almost 6, she ignores EVERYTHING I say, refuses to do anything asked of her.

For example, today she was licking a chair, I told her to stop (she’s 6 ffs!) she just stared at me and continued doing it.

She will do this repeatedly with anything I ask, just stares straight at me and continues.

We can forget getting anything done school wise, she will scream and scream and refuse.

What do I do?

What do you do when she ignores you?

It varies! Take her to her room, take away what she’s playing with, take away tablet/tv time, no pudding... it depends on what she’s done wrong.

I would think about what she likes to do most in life - telly/iPad/going on her scooter etc etc and with old it until she does what you want her to do. So no iPad till she's dressed, teeth cleaned and 30 minutes of school work done. Make her earn the things she wants so it's a positive experience - "I know you can do it" rather than punishing all the naughty behaviour. Often what kids want more than anything is their parents attention, and if negative attention is the best they can get they'll settle for that.

Re-establish who is in charge, set her some age appropriate goals so she's working towards nice things, when she's being naughty or not listening ask her if what she really wants is a hug.

My 5 year old boy who will be 6 is September does absolutely nothing I ask him, everything is no and a fight. I put it down to his age to be honest . I'm hanging on to the fact as he gets older it might get better .

Same here. At times DS (5) only hears if I really shout which I don’t like doing. I’m hoping he grows out of it too 🤦🏻‍♀️

Read how to talk so kids will listen.
