Kirstie Allsopp says it’s ok for the queen and Prince Charles to move to different places during this crisis, and that Devon is her home

Our local farm shop and pub are working full pelt just to keep up with the people who were already here’s needs. I don’t think MORE mouths is going to “help”.

Possibly not but talking daily to people in London there is a hell of a lot more food available where I live.

I think yanbu op, it's utterly baffling that Charlie is allowed to go to the highlands when others are told very strongly not to. His main home is Highgrove.

Kirsty I have no idea where do her children go to school?

Clymene · 26/03/2020 07:17

People don't tend to rent their home out though like Kristie does. Does she rent her London house out when she's in Devon?

In any event, the government has specifically asked people not to travel to their second homes, advice which the aristocracy seems to think doesn't apply to them

VivaLeBeaver · 26/03/2020 07:20

If kids go to school in London she’s a lying shitbag who thinks we’re all stupid.

I’d rather she was honest and say she was scared and did what she thought was best for her. Not try and bullshit.

People don't tend to rent their home out though like Kristie does.

Kirstie owns a property in North Devon which she rents out at exorbitant sums to the plebs, and a (much nicer) property in East Devon which the plebs never see.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 07:42

It is not her home. It is a holiday home that is rented out most of the time and was available to rent up till the 6th of March this year.
What she is saying is if you are rich, it is fine to flee to a holiday cottage, but not for everyone else to do it.

mochajoes · 26/03/2020 07:42

My mum has a holiday home in her own country. She's goes there every 6 weeks & spends most of the holidays there. It's still her second home.

mochajoes · 26/03/2020 07:43

I baffled as to why she made this public knowledge, makes her look like a dick.

Lardlizard · 26/03/2020 07:45

London hospital will perhaps be full before Devon hospitals

I doubt Prince Charles is popping down to Tesco or Boots any time soon so I feel he is a different matter.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 07:46

Look either it is wrong to travel from London to Devon, a non essential journey, with an infected DP, or it is not.
If it is not, why has the government closed down holiday accommodation? Why one rule for everyone else and a different one for her?

Lardlizard · 26/03/2020 07:47

Yes I think the royals are a totally different thing, so not very wise to say well of the queen can do it ....... so can I !

OP posts:
alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 07:50

And the point is that hospitals in Devon can't cope. She did not know if her DP would need hospital treatment or not. Or if anyone else in the family would catch it from him and need hospital treatment.

Ughmaybenot · 26/03/2020 07:51

The issue people have with this is that she’s coming into an area where resources are even more stretched than where she was before, and there’s a very high percentage of second homes. If everyone who had a second home was to do this, it would be catastrophic for the local hospitals, of which we have very few, and which are limited in their resources unfortunately. Judging by how many cars loaded to the brim with their bike racks and roof boxes on we’ve seen trouping past, a lot of these people have done just that. (And then gone straight to the beach, which is another rant on my part, it’s not a fucking extended bank holiday)
We also have a much older population, which speaks for itself and our infrastructure is poor. We don’t have supermarkets enough to accommodate this influx, it’s not unusual for shelves to be stripped bare on a sunny day in the summer and that’s without any panic buying.
It’s scary for all of us, this ‘fleeing to the country’ doesn’t help anyone imo.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 07:52

And she is not the Queen, If that is her defence then she is very tone deaf.

LizzieSiddal · 26/03/2020 07:58

would interesting to know the person to bed ratio in different areas

This is very easy to google and it’s been widely reported in the press that Devon and Cornwall do not have extra capacity for those with second homes. People were told not to travel to their second homes/go on holiday.

They went against Govt advice, but they’ll get away with it because they’re wealthy.

LizzieSiddal · 26/03/2020 07:59

And putting someone with symptoms in an enclosed space for 5 hours, with your children, is fucking neglectful imo.

bigyellowduck · 26/03/2020 08:02

The queen lives at Windsor as her main home not Buckingham palace.

kaldefotter · 26/03/2020 08:09

I doubt Prince Charles is popping down to Tesco or Boots any time soon so I feel he is a different matter.

He travelled up with staff. They've been out to the local village, putting the locals at risk. I don't see how that counts as a different matter. He should not have travelled up to Scotland.

Clymene · 26/03/2020 08:23

Her whole brand is based on aspiration which means talking about the minutiae of her life. She's so used to doing it that I guess it didn't occur to her how bad it looks. And now she's defending her woeful decision.

Her children are at school in London incidentally

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 08:32

And no Prince Charles should not have travelled either.

thegcatsmother · 26/03/2020 08:36

Prince Charles always goes to Birkhall this time of year, so he was just doing what he normally does. HM has made sure the heirs are all in different places.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 08:40

He should have been listening to government advice like all of us and not doing what he normally does.
But Charles has always made it clear that he thinks rules don't apply to him.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 08:42

Charles should have been setting a good example e.g. I normally go away this time of year, but as per government advice I won't. Please do the same and stay where you are.
It would have hardly been a hardship for him.

BlindAssassin1 · 26/03/2020 09:34

There was a story on the south west news last night about a guy living on the 15th floor in a one bed flat with two boys under six.

Wouldn't it be lovely for KA to loan her third property out to this family for the duration for free, so those little boys could run around?! Wink

Lardlizard · 26/03/2020 10:17

Actually it would have set a good example of Prince Charles hadn’t of gone to Scotland, I see your point there
