Why can’t I remember certain things??

Do I need an upgrade or reboot? My memory as a whole is really good. But there’s a few things I just can’t remember no matter how many times I look them up. CF on Mumsnet as an abbreviation is one one them, I see it daily but can never remember what it means. Another is an actor who was in Friends real name

I really do mean my memory is good, I remember details in things going back years, but I can’t seem to remember a couple of specific things???

Anyone ever had this?

But yes, I know what you mean. I'm not generally stupid, but there was one part of my physics Higher I could never get my head around, no matter how often I read it, or how well the teacher explained it. I'd be all, "Oh, right!" for a brief moment, but when faced with the question again... fluffy clouds.

Infuriating.

@HirplesWithHaggis thank you!! I feel less alone! I have a degree, have been often called on in my work because I know my cases well without having to look them up.

How old are you, OP? Perimenopause can do that to you as I know all too well. My family had great fun trying to work out what I meant when I couldn't remember a word Thankfully I'm out the other side now, after quite a long time of brain fog, but at the time it was so bloody frustrating.

@dramaalpaca maybe you’re right, no one ever told me this could be a thing...I would have remembered 😂. It’s just so specific, my memory is great, but I seriously cannot retain what CF means more than a few hours!!!

For at least a year it drove me mad that I couldn’t remember the name of a common shrub in the garden. (Mahonia). I have no idea why - it didn’t happen with anything else. I knew it began with M but still couldn’t remember it. And it was no use asking dh, who barely knows a daffodil from a dandelion.

Why it came back and has stuck, I have no idea either.
