Drawstring on jogging pants don't work - why?

I've found even on new jogging/sweat pants, the draw string is almost just there for the visual aspect but it doesn't pull to allow me to tighten the waistband. Any way of fixing this?

Buy men’s ones. Seriously. None of my drawstrings actually work, all of my husbands do.

Thanks for the tip - that's so odd. I've noticed that with pockets - women's clothing have non-functioning pockets but never known it to be the same with drawstrings. So there's no way to actual make the drawstrings on the ones I have work?

Bit worried about being men's jogging bottoms as I'm really short.

Not that I know of sorry. I hate that women’s clothes aren’t functional (this, no pockets, tiny buttons all up the back of a dress etc). I’m assuming this issue is because they think women want to have their underwear showing/think men would like to see women’s underwear/think women’s hips will stop them falling down.

Someone with some sewing/alterations experience might be able to help you find a way if you post photos but I’ve never been able to make it work. The drawstring/Waistband doesn’t have the elastic to make it work in the ones I’ve had that my husbands have all had.

The answer is cost. A long drawstring costs more than 2 fiddly bits
