Chicken breast with freezer burn....

Will it be ok to eat? I'm digging through the freezer and found a few things that have been there a while! Don't really want to waste them though.

Not at all helpful but...
What is freezer burn?

TyneTeas · 24/03/2020 20:05

I'd still eat it. That bit might be a bit tough though, you may end up cutting the burnt bit off

mineofuselessinformation · 24/03/2020 20:07

Cut the freezer burn off (it will be as tough as old boots), and use the rest.

It will be fine safety wise but the texture might be affected.

BettyFilous · 24/03/2020 20:08

It’s usually in frost-free freezers that stay that way by sucking to moisture out of the freezer. If food isn’t properly sealed it dehydrates. We found a packet of fish fillets once that looked liked dried fish rather than frozen.

OP - if its only mild freezer burn, I woukd trim the affected areas off & use it in a sauce or curry.

Clutterbugsmum · 24/03/2020 20:09

I would, but I would so it's in some sort of sauce/gravy.

TheSandman · 24/03/2020 20:12

Safe to eat. Chop it small and make soup with it?

DoubleAction · 24/03/2020 20:14

It will be fine, especially if you put in a curry or similar

ArthurDentsSpaceTowel · 24/03/2020 20:14

Freezer burn is when meat has hard dried out patches after slightly too long in the freezer or when it's caught against the freezer wall. It's harmless but you might consider casseroling rather than roasting to compensate for the tough bits.

Sparrowlegs248 · 24/03/2020 20:20

It's for sweet and sour, and just for me so I'll take my chances, thanks!
