Anyone else utterly terrible at making phone calls?

I’ve decided to try and join the Army Reserves and the website says to phone the unit to have a chat and I’m gutted Grin I was hoping there was an online form or I could just rock up in person and speak to someone.

I am truly terrible on the phone. I remember starting my first ever job and I wouldn’t go near it for months.

Anyone else similar and got any tips ? Grin

I am! I just find the whole thing so awkward. I'm perfectly capable of holding a conversation in person but on the phone I seem to struggle to know when it's 'my turn' (maybe because I can't see their face? I'm not sure) so there's always awkward silences. I used to write myself a kind of script of everything I wanted to get across but that was useless as soon as the other person gave an answer I wasn't expecting or asked questions I wasn't ready for!

That’s exactly what I find, a lack of facial cues just always seems to lead to me talking Over them (“no you carry on! tinkly laugh) urgh. Dreading it!

I used to hate it. I do still, kind of.

Then I was forced into a job where I had to do it all day every day. And I kind of got over the fear. I know it's a bit extreme.
