I dont think so

LeaveTheBottle · 24/03/2020 15:21

I hope you're right. It's definitely got something long and pointy coming out of its mouth and the long, turned out back legs

TweenageAngst · 24/03/2020 15:21

yes, thats a mozzie

LeaveTheBottle · 24/03/2020 15:23

Urgh. It's been following me around all day. It's been getting right in my face!

I was absolutely dreading the summer. I didn't think I had to worry about the spring too! 😫

Looks like a gnat to me.

LeaveTheBottle · 24/03/2020 15:37

I don't think gnats have the pointy bit do they @willowpatterns ?

There are quite a lot of native species of mosquitos (the gnat being one of many), they all look different.

MrsT1405 · 24/03/2020 16:37

Yes definitely. We get the odd one in winter.

LeaveTheBottle · 24/03/2020 16:55

Great! It's one of the few things I enjoy about winter and spring - not being bitten 🙄

LeaveTheBottle · 24/03/2020 16:57

Actually I enjoy lots about spring! 🤔

Itoldyouiwasill · 24/03/2020 17:06

Yes I've had them through the winter and have been bitten. In the SE where it's been so mild
I react terribly too

LeaveTheBottle · 24/03/2020 20:14

@Itoldyouiwasill, it's horrible isn't it? I don't understand why they like me so much Confused

ExpletiveDelighted · 24/03/2020 20:18

Yes, we had a swarm of them in the garden today.

CleverQuacks · 24/03/2020 20:21

I don’t know but was bitten by something similar that was flying round my lounge on Sunday. Now I have three lovely bites on my arm.

LeaveTheBottle · 25/03/2020 10:42

I don't really understand if they thrive in hot weather. I know we've had a few warm days, but I wouldn't think they'd survive the cold nights.

OP posts:
Moonmelodies · 25/03/2020 11:49

Can they pass on viruses?

LeaveTheBottle · 25/03/2020 14:00

@Moonmelodies, is that a genuine question?..

OP posts:
anothernotherone · 25/03/2020 14:03

The European winter was too mild so they're back early - my 8 year old was bizarrely lecturing me about it last week (he'd seen something on TV)... Hmm

anothernotherone · 25/03/2020 14:06

Moonmelodies Zika, Dengue Fever...

WelshMoth · 25/03/2020 15:12

Isn't that a newly hatched crane fly?

BritishHorrorStory · 25/03/2020 15:21

Can MOSQUITOS pass on viruses? REALLY??

Moonmelodies · 25/03/2020 16:41

Sure, why not?

Thepigeonsarecoming · 25/03/2020 16:43

I had one in my car earlier...they never ever bite me though, I must not be as tasty as you op 🤷‍♀️

dementedpixie · 25/03/2020 16:49

Looks like a crane fly to me

BritishHorrorStory · 25/03/2020 17:43

@Moonmelodies

I’m just surprised you didn’t know that. Mosquitos are responsible for over a million human deaths per year, because they carry viruses and diseases.
