Have you aged ten years overnight on a supermarket website?
Are you sticking to the 'two sheets' rule?
Have you had it with singing celebrities?
Are you yearning for what we will now call The Before Times?

If you've answered yes to any of the above, here's where you come to post threads about Naice Things - like ham and cats. Where The Virus That Must Not Be Named (TVTMNBM) is off-limits.

We'll do our best to keep the corona-free zone moderated - you do your best to chill out and gather strength. Flowers Brew

Keep using the normal boards for normal stuff, but here's where to come if you need a break. We're hoping everyone will see the value of having somewhere to get away from it all.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Lovely plant photos.Smile

YoTheGinPussyOfStMawesOnThigh · 30/03/2020 17:46

SnakePlant thank you. I have grown MIL Tongues an haven’t heard them called that before. Always nice to find something new out so much appreciated.

SnakePlant · 30/03/2020 18:04

I ended up with my snake plant/mother in laws (sharp) tongue after googling ‘indestructible plants’. So far so good. It’s still looking ok but I’ve only had it 2 months so there’s time for things to go wrong still.

theoriginalmadambee they’re so pretty.

SnakePlant · 30/03/2020 18:05

Btw what language do you speak (other than English obviously)?

theoriginalmadambee · 30/03/2020 18:27

snakeplant if you mean my native language, it is danish.

I used to have a mil's tongue, no direct light, not too much water as I recall it Smile.

theoriginalmadambee · 30/03/2020 18:43

Just baked Smile. Sorry for all the pics Blush.

I just looked up snake plant , that's Beamtenhafer to me (it survives in the darkest and most neglected places)

SnakePlant · 30/03/2020 19:16

I’m really hoping the snake plant turns out to be as bulletproof as they’re said to be.

I have such a longing to go to Denmark. Along with Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland. I’ve been to Finish Lapland to see Santa and the scenery was utterly breathtaking. I would love to see more of Scandinavia.

SnakePlant · 30/03/2020 19:18

Prokupatus are you German?

DanglyTasselsOfThigh · 30/03/2020 19:28

Madambee you are not our Danish friend are you?

If not ignore me, that cake looks lovely!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/03/2020 19:39

SnakePlan yes, I am (from the Ruhr originally) - grew up on "BFBS the radio division of the SSVC" - so I am old-ish.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/03/2020 19:41

Norwegian is a lovely language, too. The grammar is fairly easy (I have to channel my inner granny) but I'll never manage a decent pronounciation

theoriginalmadambee · 30/03/2020 19:57

SnakePlant if you take a tour of Scandinavia make sure to do it in the summer Wink.

dangly it's bread Grin. No funny handshake, we are a few Danes here that I know of Smile.

Prokupatuscrakedatus this thread is turning out quite international Smile.

SnakePlant · 30/03/2020 20:34

prokupatuscrakedatus My DB and partner live in NRW - Dusseldorf. They’ve lived there over 30 years. I was supposed to go stay with them over Easter but that’s obviously on hold. I love it there so much. If I could afford the health care I’d love to live there. I was last there at Christmas. That and Karnival are my favourite times to be there. The atmosphere is so special and family oriented. I love how at 10pm there are young families at the Karnival and how it feels safe and friendly. There’s no way I’d be hanging around at 10pm or later at a fair in the UK.

I would like to do a train tour of Scandinavia one day. Summer there must be gorgeous. But I do love winter and snowy, dark days.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/03/2020 20:47

Snakeplant
I have family in Düsseldorf - by the way a great place to learn Japanese - but I am from higher up - Duisburg and Essen.
On the subject of Fasteloved: My DF - Westfalian by culture - was trasferred to Cologne and on his first Rose Monday he actually tried to work. They took his desk away and installed a buffet and he didn't come home for two days. Grin

Genderwitched · 30/03/2020 21:43

Norwegian is a lovely language

Yes it is, we watched Troll Hunter last night on Netflix and it was so badly dubbed that after about five minutes we turned it to Norwegian and put on the subtitles. Much better Smile

SnakePlant · 30/03/2020 22:10

Blimey it’s a small world sometimes prokupatus . Yes there’s a big Japanese community in Dusseldorf. And a big Turkish one now too. Love the story of your DF getting waylaid by a buffet on Rose Monday and not returning home for 2 days 😱😂. My DB and partner are in Benrath. Don’t know how well known it is. They’re one tram stop past Schloss Benrath. Soooo pretty.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/03/2020 22:44

I've been in Berlin these last decades, but had three false starts at learning Turkish: no irregular verbs they told me - ha!! and din't tell me about consonant weakening and the aorist. I've started my fourth attempt last year.
My people are not in Benrath, but I have been to the Schloß.

SnakePlant · 30/03/2020 23:16

Can’t believe you’ve been to the Schloss. I’ve not been to Berlin. I want to go. I can’t imagine being able to learn Turkish. Or Japanese for that matter. Good luck with fourth attempt with the Turkish. After over 30 years of visiting Germany 3 times a year, I can’t even make myself understood in German. I’m ashamed of myself. Just can’t get my head around it.

MinnieMountain · 31/03/2020 06:34

The Norwegians are lovely people too. DH has family who've lived there for decades. We went to a wedding there when DS was tiny. The mother of the bride was very nice about DS making a grab for her heirloom necklace. It is beautiful in summer.

Berlin is on my list too @SnakePlant. I spent a year right down in the south many moons ago but never made it north of Nuremberg.

Roussette · 31/03/2020 08:06

Loving hearing from other countries. And it's bringing back memories. Before I met DH, I had a boyfriend for 4 years who emigrated to Sweden. I used to fly over to Stockholm to see him. He opened an English furniture shop over there, it was quite a novelty in the late 70s.

Annifred and Benny from Abba came in the shop to look at the furniture. I was beside myself with excitement and as a 20something, trying not to show it.
Memories memories
