HELP NEEDED: Has anyone filled in the SDLT stamp-duty HMRC form for buying a freehold property - need help with it.

My solictor says I gotta fill it in myself or pay him £100 to do it - I'd rather do it myself if possible. Does it need to be approved before exchange of contracts? What are the implications of having a mistake on it? Can someone help me fill it in please? Even willing to pay a small amount for guidance.

I've tried using the guidance pdf but it's not entirely helpful.

Any help much appreciated

In the grand scheme of things, paying £100 for accuracy and peace of mind is nothing.

You're (presumably) spending hundreds of thousands of pounds so this might end up being a foolish cost saving.

Pay the solicitor. The possible consequences of getting it wrong could include an horrendous tax bill.

Penny wise, pound foolish.

Although to come back to this - SDLT is normally part and parcel of normal conveyancing. It's quite odd he's pulled this one line item out of the whole process - is there a back story that may be relevant (i.e. is it some highly unusual transaction or something?)
