How do I listen to podcasts?

Ok ... I’m a bit stuck with all this techie stuff and need help please.

I want to be able to get podcasts and music on my phone and listen to them but not using earphones.
I have no music or podcasts at the moment, I am a complete novice.
I have an iPhone 6S

Do I stream them?
What equipment do I need to play them through?
Can this ‘equipment’ be a radio too?

As you can see, I haven’t a clue and would appreciate any help.
Thanks!

(Don’t want to spend more than £100)

I just use spotify, either on my phone or laptop. If I'm not using headphones then just through the device's own speakers. No additional equipment necessary!

Does your phone have a music app? The icon is white with a coloured music note. That should work.

My iPhone also has a built-in app called "podcasts" - the icon is pink/purple. Do you have that?

You don't need any equipment, just turn up the sound on your phone and you'll be able to hear (not amazing quality, but it should be decent enough for just you).

If you'd like to listen via an existing stereo or something, does it have an "aux" socket? It might be labelled "music port". You'll need a little cable that connects your phone - would be best to send photos to a local music or hardware shop and they can probably get you one.

Alternatively, buy a set of speakers. There are loads on Amazon, to give you an idea. Again, a local electrical shop would be able to make suggestions if you gave them a ring or email. A lot of them are happy for you to pay online and they'll deliver to your door.

You don't need to spend anything, unless you want something like a Spotify premium subscription. You just need the right app on your phone.

You probably want to download podcasts using your home wifi, to save data use and also in case your data signal is poor.

I use the Antennapod app, but I have an android phone. There will be an Apple podcast app, or plenty of others available.

I subscribe to the podcasts I like and then new episodes are automatically downloaded onto my phone when available and I'm on wifi, so usually at home. When I've listened to them, they're automatically deleted.

I also have some music on my phone in the standard google music player app and presumably you can do the same thing with itunes or Spotify.

Or you could buy a bluetooth speaker for better sound quality than your phone. I don't know if this is what the Alexa things are, but we have a generic one which works fine.

Thanks all.
I understand about the apps and I’ve discovered you can get Bluetooth speakers with radio!

I use an iPhone and listen to podcasts via the purple podcast app. Sometimes I Bluetooth to speakers but if I'm cleaning around the house I just let it play and tuck it into my pocket 🙃

I can recommend Stuff you should know with Josh & Chuck as my favourite podcast Grin

I love podcasts. I just use the apple podcast app, purple one, I’m lucky that when I’m in the office at work I’m on my own and just play them through the phone or if I’m on nights or if the kids are around input the headphones in. I like listening to them when I’m doing housework too, pop in the headphones and get to work. I think it makes me more productive and although I love music it can be more distracting and gets boring after a while. I like feeling like I’m listening in to other people’s conversations.
