Does too much alcohol cause bowel issues?

I know someone who, although I wouldn't describe as an alcoholic, I believe drinks too much. He has about three bowel movements a day. I don't think this is normal... he thinks it's healthy. He has also put on quite a bit of weight around his middle, again I believe due to alcohol rather than food. Could this be a health issue?

Alcohol can inflame your bowel if you’re that way inclined. I am.

However some people do just have that sort of pattern - if you eat three times a day, take exercise and have a fast system, it’s not that unusual. Some people only go every other day - If it’s what’s normal for him that’s fine. It is unexpected changes that are more concerning.

Alcohol affects every part of the gastrointestinal tract Plus most of the rest of the body
So yes. Bowels can be affected

I used to live with an alcoholic - he constantly had upset stomach/ the runs / vomiting etc

I think it's healthy to have a bowel movement three times a day - after every meal. Why do you think it's not normal?

I've never heard of anyone going after every meal. For example, he drank a bottle of wine himself on Saturday night and he went three times before lunch on Sunday.
