Anyone found anywhere you can order food online?

I know all the supermarket delivery are fully booked but, but I was hoping I might be able to buy something online!

We're on day 5 of isolation and can see that by next week we're going to be eating some weird combinations! The fresh milk ran out today and we'll be out of fresh veg in a few days. I just want to buy a little bit of stuff to make next week more beareable, especially for the DC. And also so we don't totally eat everything in the house if possible!

I tried Amazon Pantry, they still had some stuff I wanted when I had a look the other day but I think I've missed the boat as now I can't find enough there to justify the spend. If you want chocolate or condiments, thought, worth a try! There's a minimum £15 charge and they add on £3.90 delivery fee.

I discovered you can order food off normal Amazon. There's some stupidly expensive stuff (like £17 for a bag of crisps I kid you not!). But aside from that there's some other stuff like particularly if you're happy to buy large multipacks (and share it with your neighbours maybe?). Lots of diabetic jam (i.e. low sugar).

I bought some chocolate and a jam.

There are lots of artisan shops selling pasta for a five or whatever. Too pricey for me! And I found some discount shops but they only have weird stuff in.

I tried Boots - they have lots of vegan treats in and overpriced snacks.

I tried veg box schemes but they're all fully booked.

Is there anywhere else I can try? I was thinking there might be some shops that don't primarily sell food that might still have some stock in. Any ideas gratefully received!

Have you tried milkandmore or Find me a Milkman?

popcorndiva · 22/03/2020 23:06

Tried muscle foods for meat?

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 22/03/2020 23:08

Great idea, thanks but - just checked and Milk and More say no new customers at the moment. Find me a Milkman says Milk and More are my local one.

Damn! I get the feeling I'm a couple of days behind on this one!

I hope the government and business find a way to sort out food distribution soon.

We have a lot of local pubs delivering groceries from their suppliers around here, look on Facebook if you have it. Also local greengrocers having fruit /veg boxes for collection, where they leave it outside for you.

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 22/03/2020 23:11

Thanks posterpopcorndiva, sorry I should have said, we're veggie / pescatarian.

However - just had a quick look and they seem to do some non meat stuff and don't say they're sold out so off to have a better look, fingers crossed they actually have stock!

Ocado' holding page currently shows a wait time of 15 minutes and says they have a few slots in the coming days in some areas.

fuzzledface · 22/03/2020 23:15

Our local wholesalers have opened up to the general public for phone and collect orders. Might be worth a google to see if any local to you are offering!

copperoliver · 22/03/2020 23:56

Keep checking Ocado. Every few days they release some slots. I had to wait in a a queue last night, but received shopping tonight and everything was there including, pasta, rice and other cupboard essentials. X

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 23/03/2020 00:08

Gutted! I signed up and joined the Ocado queue, I was 690th out of 690! It got to 0 relatively quickly - but then it said sorry, not accepting new customers. Gah!

Top tip! Kicking myself for not ever using Ocado!

My mum's a customer, I wonder if they'd let her send me food? Hmm, I'd guess not but I wonder if it's worth a try...

popcorndiva success! Well, kinda....

I can't believe how excited I got that muscle foods actually has fresh veg! And fish too.

I ordered veg, fish and a selection of health cupboard treats for the kids eg. dry fruits, chocolate covered seeds etc. And the prices are brilliant.

But then saw the earliest delivery date is April 14th! I've ordered it anyway. They won't take the money till the 10th and I can always cancel.

Fuck knows what'll be going on by then and it feels good to know I have some food on the way anyway, even if it doesn't solve the immediate issue!

Thanks for that tip :)

Do you have any small local independent shops or farm shops?
A few near us have started a delivery service.
If you're on Facebook check your local pages for updates and info.

Bestbe · 23/03/2020 00:22

I’ve got an Ocado pass but no slots and the website is in meltdown.

Kinneddar · 23/03/2020 00:33

My mum's a customer, I wonder if they'd let her send me food

What about adding your food onto her order then collecting it from her. I'm doing that for my Mum. Shes very sensibly self isolating and doesnt want to go to the shops. I'm going to order her stuff along with mine & then I'll put it in bags & leave it on her doorstep when I'm heading for work

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 23/03/2020 01:22

She's nearly 3 hours drive away in London unfortunately, and self isolating. I won't see her in person till this is over unless she gets sick and needs me to go look after her.

Deliveroo is doing an Essentials range in our area. Also our local co-op is on deliveroo for basics - worth checking?

In our cities lots of cafes and bakeries and things are now doing cycle deliveries. You might find something on a local Facebook page.

VanGoghsDog · 23/03/2020 01:39

www.fairwayfoodservice.com/product-category/mains-sides/

I heard these guys were diversifying into consumer sales for the duration, give them a call?

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 23/03/2020 18:18

OMFG, my local corner shop / off license (which isn't that good for food tbh) is on Deliveroo, but selling food for about double the price it appears in the shop. Is that normal?!

Standrewsschool · 23/03/2020 18:20

In our area, local pubs are doing takeaways and some have set up shops. Are there any local farm shops?

mygrandchildrenrock · 23/03/2020 18:28

Are you any where near a Morrison’s?
I can’t link from my phone but they are doing veggie and meat boxes for £35.00

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 23/03/2020 18:44

Gah! Got excited there for a minute. It looked like I might be able to get Morrison food delivered to us, but after I signed up it said they don't do deliveries to where we live after all.

There is a local Morrisons but we can't get out right now, we're in isolation for another week.

OP posts:
whatdayisitandotherquestions · 23/03/2020 18:45

We do have local farm shops and I've got the number of a couple. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they'll deliver.

OP posts:
chipsandpeas · 23/03/2020 18:49

i think the morrisons food boxes will deliver anywhere as its coming via dpd
www.morrisons.com/food-boxes/

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 23/03/2020 19:13

Oh I could cry!

Thanks chipsandpeas, that seemed like a great idea. I selected the vegetarian box. Took ages to find how to checkout, eventually I found it - the button to progress was hidden under the web cookies notice (if you're reading this Morrisons, that's very bad design!)

Got to "select delivery date" and there's nothing left in March, and I couldn't see a way to go to April.

This is hard!

How are people who aren't internet savvy and with no support network coping? I guess they're probably just breaking the isolation rule and going to the shops?

sleepismysuperpower1 · 23/03/2020 19:14

5aday boxes have got meat, veg, fruit etc

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 23/03/2020 19:16

I got a single jar of jam from Amazon today, which was funny.

I ordered a few things from Amazon the other day - chocolates for the kids and jam for me.

As I ordered it from Amazon grocery section (not Amazon Pantry) it's just like an ordinary Amazon order and if it's from different sellers it can come on different days. A single jam jar seemed an odd order to receive! But welcome anyway :)
