Anyone found anywhere you can order food online?

I know all the supermarket delivery are fully booked but, but I was hoping I might be able to buy something online!

We're on day 5 of isolation and can see that by next week we're going to be eating some weird combinations! The fresh milk ran out today and we'll be out of fresh veg in a few days. I just want to buy a little bit of stuff to make next week more beareable, especially for the DC. And also so we don't totally eat everything in the house if possible!

I tried Amazon Pantry, they still had some stuff I wanted when I had a look the other day but I think I've missed the boat as now I can't find enough there to justify the spend. If you want chocolate or condiments, thought, worth a try! There's a minimum £15 charge and they add on £3.90 delivery fee.

I discovered you can order food off normal Amazon. There's some stupidly expensive stuff (like £17 for a bag of crisps I kid you not!). But aside from that there's some other stuff like particularly if you're happy to buy large multipacks (and share it with your neighbours maybe?). Lots of diabetic jam (i.e. low sugar).

I bought some chocolate and a jam.

There are lots of artisan shops selling pasta for a five or whatever. Too pricey for me! And I found some discount shops but they only have weird stuff in.

I tried Boots - they have lots of vegan treats in and overpriced snacks.

I tried veg box schemes but they're all fully booked.

Is there anywhere else I can try? I was thinking there might be some shops that don't primarily sell food that might still have some stock in. Any ideas gratefully received!

Thanks for the suggestion, sleepismysuperpower1.

Sadly the website says "Sorry we don’t deliver in your area yet, to collect an order from the farm please ring 01380 860968"

(We're in a town in the South East)

sleepismysuperpower1 · 23/03/2020 19:23

ah ok, the paddock link might deliver?

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 23/03/2020 19:32

Thanks again sleepismysuperpower1, good idea, please keep 'em coming, but the website says:

Due to the current Corona Virus outbreak, we are experiencing a very high volume of orders, enquiries, emails and phone calls. As of midnight Friday 20th March, we are temporarily accepting no further orders from new customers and our Farm Shop is closed. There will be no phone support during the current time. We are prioritising existing customers, their families and those most vulnerable within our community. We cannot guarantee delivery to anyone.

Just done the round of supermarkets in our area again online, just in case. Got my hopes raised by Iceland who said they're only delivering to those who are vulnerable or self isolating, and we're self isolating because my eldest has possible CV symptoms.

But - same story, no delivery slots.

Gutted I've never signed up for Ocado! Between DP and I we're members of every other supermarket website I think!

I just came across the news about Morrison food boxes, so this is new, right? metro.co.uk/2020/03/23/coronavirus-uk-morrisons-launches-food-box-service-people-unable-get-delivery-slots-12442916/

Looks like they've been instantly sold out! I hope other supermarkets follow suit. It's a good idea.

me again, apparently uber eats have a supermarket delivery option? i can't seem to see it in my area but it may be in yours

notanurse2017 · 23/03/2020 19:46

Op my Ocado account allows me to send a delivery to my dd 200 miles away. Or at least it used to! Not sure if it would now. Ask your mum to see if she can add your address to her account.

SummerSazz · 23/03/2020 19:54

Has your local area not set up groups to help the self isolating. We have a very well organised one for our village which is split into areas with different teamS and a central helpline/email address.

We've had relatives contact us for helping elderly villagers.

I've also seen general area shout outs for help and again people are signposting local delivery people or local volunteer groups.

I'd say get on your local fb group and put a 'shout out'. There are loads of people who want to help x

Elouera · 23/03/2020 19:59

Ann Summers does cola sweets, chocolate and pasta- but all in penis shapes Grin

Are you on 'nextdoor'? Sign up in your area and ask for help. In my area, 20+ have offered to help collect shopping from local shops, walk the dog, collect medications etc.

KittenVsBox · 23/03/2020 20:01

Are you on Facebook?
I have several companies in groups like "My Area Noticeboard" or "MyArea Covid19 Support" who used to supply catering trade offer collection and limited delivery. Worth a look - although you might be looking at next week now.....

I took a Tesco delivery for next Friday (we have another week of quarantine), and now have mixed box of fruit&veg, along with some milk and bread turning up on Tuesday.

SylvanianFrenemies · 23/03/2020 20:01

Lots of local farms and catering suppliers are doing domestic deliveries. I have ordered fruit, veg, milk, bread and meat. Hopefully to come tomorrow!

tulipsrus · 23/03/2020 20:05

Do you have local Facebook groups.
Ours are listing loads of independent places and how to help them, lots of restaurants/cafes delivering
Cafes selling fresh produce ?

That's hilarious. I did ask for shops that sell food that aren't the ones you'd think of! Great lateral thinking! Might keep that one up my sleeve Grin (Hoping that's not a double entendre!)

Do not rely on Tesco.
I had an order for tonight booked 3 weeks ago. They removed it last night. No message

When you ring, every combination cuts the customer off the line.
There's no email address and even on Twitter they ignore you.

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 23/03/2020 20:21

I am on Facebook but all the local things I saw last time I looked were either things like restaurants offering their stock for people to pick up or people helping those in desperate need - and we're not there yet, thankfully! Just want to get some food in before it does run out. It makes me nervous that I don't know where it'll come from. We've got about about 8 decent meals left I think, so 4 days' worth (not counting breakfast) and then we'll be on to eating odd stuff but not starving. We have shit loads of Heinz tomato soup and crunchy nut cornflakes for some reason. (Not stockpiling as such, just disorganisation!)

The fresh milk's run out, but we have a couple of cartons of "cupboard milk". Will find out if the DC will accept it tomorrow! DP and I have been using the UHT for tea for days, to make the fresh milk last longer for the DC.

We're out of bread, and our bloody oven isn't working (why now?!!) so can't make any. Which is a shame as we also have loads of flour. DP's been making flatbread on the hob which came out well. So, we're not in hardship. I'd just really like to order some food so I know we have some for next week. We have another 8 days of isolation.

Started the last toilet roll today though. Currently debating whether the 2 boxes of tissues we have can go down the toilet or not!

Also have shit loads of meds, thankfully. I turned out the medicine cabinet and it turns out we've been stockpiling paracetomol based meds among others for years without realising it. (Being crap at chucking things away does have benefits!).

So, I'm loathe to ask for help off those Facebook groups as there are plenty of old and vulnerable people round here who need help a lot more than us.

I'll try those groups again to see if I can find somewhere to deliver though, good call thanks.

Sadly I can't afford to have take out every night. We did get a pizza delivery For my Mother's Day treat (a day early!) which was lovely (although the next day I worried about the boxes being contaminated with coronavirus!) but we just can't afford to do that again. Both DP and I are freelance and the work is already drying up. And the government seem to have forgotten that self employed people need to eat, pay bills and look after their kids too, but that's another story...

I got some bits from healthysupplies.co.uk over the weekend. Slightly random selection but now's the time for creativity in the kitchen.

KittenVsBox · 23/03/2020 21:01

8 decent meals plus some funny stuff = 8 decent dinners, plus 8 funny lunches. That's what we are doing.

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 23/03/2020 21:14

How about cut price Barry, approved food, star bargains, clearance XL? Not good for fresh stuff but lots of biscuits!

Auldspinster · 23/03/2020 21:15

I managed to get an order in with a farm shop, expensive but worth it. My freezer is full and needing defrosting so I'll do that tomorrow, getting delivered on Thursday.

I ordered a kilo of potatoes which is probably a bit much for one person but I guess I can make a big pot of mash and freeze it.

HathorX · 23/03/2020 21:19

Have you hopped on to Facebook to see if someone nearby can help? In my area people are being exceptionally generous in our community, perhaps a neighbour who isn’t in isolation could add some fresh food to their online order, or pick it up from the shop, you can pay them by PayPal or cheque or bank transfer.

missnevermind · 23/03/2020 21:28

Our local taxi firms are picking up and delivering home shopping from local shops that you have ordered and paid for ready.
So for example ring the local nisa have them make you up a basket pay over the phone and the taxi driver will bring it to you.

AlexaShutUp · 23/03/2020 21:48

Good thread, OP. I'm facing the same problem. Managed to get a slot on Asda website late last night, but then it wouldn't let me check out - I was trying until 3am. I guess all of the systems are just crashing!

I'm currently in an ocado queue, keeping my fingers crossed. Fortunately, I have ordered from them previously, though not for a long time. Hoping but not expecting to find a slot.

There are some other good ideas on here too, thanks all.

Pixxie7 · 23/03/2020 21:59

Had a Tesco delivery tonight, managed to get essentials but bizarre substitutes and unable to send back. Still better than nothing.

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 24/03/2020 00:14

Found lots of leads for local shops. I have a few to call tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath - all the ones with websites said they've stopped taking orders for a few days so they can catch up with existing orders.

So that's hopeful for later in the week, but I'm starting to get a little obsessed with wanting to order something so I know I have at least one bird in the hand so to speak!

Went back on Amazon. The jam I bought yesterday for £1.40 is now over £7. The prices on there are all astronomical now, that really should be illegal.

DP had the bright idea of buying a bread maker (our oven is kaput) but they're sold out everywhere. I feel like we're a few days behind the rush and have lost out.
