Obviously, it’s Mother’s Day and lots of people’s plans have gone to the wall with the pandemic. So how are people spending their Sunday?

As well as doing cards and whatnot with my children and a chat with my mother (via telephone), I’ve mostly taking advantage of the sunshine to get out in the garden (whilst DH cooks a lovely roast for us). Lawn (rather a grand term for it thanks to the dog) has had its first mow of the year, I’ve fed all of my pots and done a bit of weeding Smile. A few lovely meditative tasks in these chaotic times.

What are the rest of you up to?

Pretty much the same as you.
I’m sitting in the garden reading and MNing.
Did FaceTime with my mum earlier.
DP is baking bread, and DD is playing games on her computer.
We might go and play football on the large lawn in our street soon.
It’s all kind of idyllic in the garden, except for the sirens of ambulances going by every 5 min or so, which is scary as we’re near two of the London hospitals where it’s rumoured that they can’t take any more Covid patients.

BuzzingtheBee · 22/03/2020 16:04

Very little... I have a chronic illness and rest when possible at weekends..Especially important now the children will be home.

jess3817 · 22/03/2020 16:43

The kids did their weekly chores to earn pocket money, we did some reading, generally pottered about, the two youngest made lunch wich was lovely. Watched a film and we went on the massive ( empty) field behind our house and all did some running.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 22/03/2020 16:48

Am about a quarter of the way through a 48 hour shift.

Support worker in a home for young adults with LD.

Several staff unwell/self isolating. Not many left to cover shifts. It's been a bit of a struggle.

CoronaIsComing · 22/03/2020 16:49

Mainly judged all the people in the many photos I’ve seen online of people out and about mixing with others. Now cooking a roast dinner.

Dh is washing one of the cars, but saving the other for another day to spread out the “fun” 😂.

DS has played in the garden on his scooter and is now watching YouTube 🙈

This is a completely new way of life for us as our weekends are usually jam packed!

Amboseli · 22/03/2020 16:51

This morning I vacuumed and mopped the floor. Hung out the washing. Went for a short walk (huge park, few people, easy to stay 10+ meters from anyone else). Home now and will stay in for the rest of the day. Family of 4, all in separate rooms all day.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/03/2020 17:23

I did some scanning for the society I am volunteering for.
Played Qwirkle with DD and did not loose!
Spent some time on our stationary bike for exercise and endorphins.

DH went to a high risk area yesterday evening to care for his ancient DM and will be stuck there for the forseeable future.

Howmanysleepsnow · 22/03/2020 17:30

Made DS’s birthday cake with him (he wanted to help) as it’s his birthday today too. Did presents in the morning (ordered on Amazon as avoiding shops). Saw my mum from a distance briefly. Sat out in the sun while the dc played. I’m now about to make dinner before serving the cake.

Stompythedinosaur · 22/03/2020 17:57

I braved the carnage of Tescos NHS hour to get shopping for dm, which I dropped off. This afternoon I'm been fighting the dc over doing some of their schoolwork from next week (as I won't be able to do this with them on certain days and the school's expectations seem really high).

JonHammIsMyJamm · 22/03/2020 17:57

Look after yourself, @BuzzingtheBee

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon, that sounds really tough. Hope it goes as well as it can Flowers

@CoronaIsComing & @Amboseli, I walked the dog earlier in an open area where it was mostly easy to keep 2+ metres apart. There are a couple of narrow-ish footpaths to get to the open area and we met a few people along there, we just tucked right into the hedge to get out of the way whilst they passed.

I’ve never heard of Quirkle, @Prokupatuscrakedatus. What is it?

Happy birthday to DS @Howmanysleepsnow Smile. Hopefully his birthday hasn’t been too disrupted by social distancing.

Made tea and coffee - got up - said morning to the teenager - cleared draining board - did crosswords - had lunch - got given a pile of chocolate (but neither had bought a card...) - washed up - sat about on Mumsnet and Ancestry while boys study and play computers or air hockey and husband has a bike ride and cooks dinner

Without the pandemic it would have been much the same except I'd probably have gone to church and felt terribly guilty about being glad that actually there were no small children present to have my badly-prepared Junior Church inflicted on them Grin

incognitomum · 22/03/2020 18:16

I was at work yesterday until this afternoon (healthcare) came home chatted with ds2. Poured some beer and had nachos and salsa. Rang MIL who's self isolating as she's in her 80s. My mam died a few years ago.

Am now watching a film with my feet up. Ds2 is buying me a take away later for mother's day. Ds1 is working overtime and lives in another town. He's face timing tonight Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/03/2020 18:45

@JonHammIsMyJamm
I spelt it wrongly - it's Qwirkle.
You combine either same colours and different symbols or vice versa and DD always thinks several turns ahead of me

What are you doing today?
JonHammIsMyJamm · 22/03/2020 18:50

Oooh, that looks good. I’ve never seen it before

OP posts:
Whattheduck · 22/03/2020 18:54

Day 5 of self isolating here
Cleaned the house this morning
Had a lovely Sunday roast
Spent some time reading/doing some word searches (my dd gave me a word search book for mother’s day)
Now I’ve put my pyjamas on and poured myself a martini and lemonade and going to watch some tv with dh
Dd is upstairs tidying her desk ready to start doing schoolwork tomorrow

MysweetAudrina · 22/03/2020 19:11

Got flowers and chocs and a handmade card this morning. Had a lie in, then got up, put ds's mattress protectors in the machine and aired the mattresses. Then put beef, ale and mushroom pie insides into the slow cooker and let It do its thing. I have it in the pastry and in the oven waiting for it to cook. Sat out in the garden with dd and the dog and cats while dh pruned and mowed the garden. Then we took the hurls and the dog up to the local empty gaa pitches and hit the ball around for an hour and just going to chill and eat the chocs after dinner.
