Fancy fish & chips for tea. There was a thread about this before I think but just wondering if folks are still getting Chinese etc?

Yes, getting a takeaway is absolutely fine.

Enjoy!

InDubiousBattle · 22/03/2020 10:26

We got a takeaway last night. I think that any risk is pretty minimal. We used Just Eat so had contact less payment and delivery.

lucysmam · 22/03/2020 10:27

We did last night. There's a message box to ask them to knock & leave it on the doorstep if need be.

Enjoy your chippy tea :)

Runningjayne · 22/03/2020 10:29

Yes it is. Lots of businesses will be depending on people getting takeaways to survive.

Horehound · 22/03/2020 10:29

Well it's pretty fucking stupid since the virus lives on plastic for up to 72 hours and cardboard for 24

NuffSaidSam · 22/03/2020 10:30

Yes, it's fine.

Just check their food hygiene rating and avoid if low.

BilboBercow · 22/03/2020 10:33

Takeaways are one of the few pleasures I have right now. You'll need to prise my takeaways out of my cold dead hands.

The same applies to anything you buy in a supermarket, and food hygiene standards are much higher for people working in a takeaway than they are for shelf stackers.

Bunnylady54 · 22/03/2020 10:38

Thanks for that Horehound - you have a point but there’s no need to swear

Yes, we are. They're left outside, we take them in and dispose of packaging in the outside bin immediately and wash hands etc. and then serve it and eat.

InDubiousBattle · 22/03/2020 10:48

Well no, it isn't 'fucking stupid', it doesn't live of boiling hot food so wash your hands and don't eat any of the packaging.

prampushingdownthehighst · 22/03/2020 11:55

Lots of pubs and restaurants are offering a take out service and we intend to support them as long as we can

Hang on, what? The polystyrene box is the tastiest part?

skippy67 · 22/03/2020 12:32

I've just cancelled my takeaway order of plastic and cutlery. Was really looking forward to it too...

JasonBrun · 22/03/2020 12:38

I'm not doing it. Only needs someone to breathe on your food (which will happen, believe me I've worked in enough kitchens) and be harbouring the virus. Let alone the packaging etc. At least food from the supermarket you can wipe down the external packaging. What will you do- wipe down each chip?

As for the argument about the economy, as I've said on many other threads- the economy won't matter to you when you're dead.

JasonBrun · 22/03/2020 12:40

I think it would live on food that was contaminated while it was being packaged though. Worker breathes on the lid of your pea pot, or on your peas once they're in there?

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 22/03/2020 14:32

As far as I'm aware, science suggests it's extremely unlikely to survive on food that has been heated to the temperature required by food standards.

You may have a valid point re: sandwiches/salads etc. But that's not what op is planning on having.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 22/03/2020 14:40

Well one doesn’t tend to eat the fucking packaging do they so no it’s not stupid... 🙄

Pay by card so your not handling money
Take food out of bag
Throw bag
Wash hands
Put food on to plates
Put packaging in to bin or dishwasher to be washed
Wash hands
Wipe kitchen surface down with soap and water
Eat
DO NOT EAT PACKAGING, LIKE EVER VIRUS OR NO VIRUS

We’ve had a couple of take aways from the fancy restaurants that’s currently delivering as they can’t have you eat it and that’s what we’ve done...No symptoms...No virus yet but then we didn’t eat the packaging so....

RhymingRabbit3 · 22/03/2020 14:40

Yes it's fine, I very much enjoyed our indian takeaway last night! Paid over the phone and did a "drive thru" collection so no face to face contact with anyone.
If we do go into lockdown I assume takeaways will close as they're not essentially work, so I'm making the most of it now!

Horehound · 22/03/2020 14:52

Fuck sake. Apparently there is a reason to swear because demonstrated by the posters above they believe they only get it by eating something with the virus on Hmm

No. The takeaway staff coukd have the virus, it's on their hands, it's all over the packaging, you then touch the packaging then the cutlery and then shovel food into your mouths.

Enjoy! Smile

x2boys · 22/03/2020 14:53

I did consider one last night but couldn't find my debit card, are you ordering fish and chips from Just eat or similar? Not sure I would queue up in a chip shop right now .

The Government are relaxing planning laws to enable restaurants to provide takeaways to avoid them going out of business. The Government are actively encouraging it at the moment. This may well change in the future. We had our most expensive takeaway ever last night! We had been planning to eat out so ordered a takeaway instead. We are supporting local business and will stop if the Government advise us to.

willowpatterns · 22/03/2020 14:56

Fish and chip shops don't open on Sundays round here.
