What will you be doing during the time you will now have to spend inside

Dh and I are in the vulnerable/over 70 category so will need to spend a lot of the next few months inside so I have started knitting again and he is getting better at online jigsaws.

Dd is also at home as dgs (2 1/2)has had breathing difficulties in the past so she needs to look after him and the childminder has had to close. She is spending the time potty training him. That has not gone well so far but they could be at home for 3 months.

What ideas has anyone else got to keep occupied?

Gardening gardening and more gardening.

And board games.

HowIrresponsible · 21/03/2020 17:26

Working.

Might as well focus on my career.

MrsT1405 · 21/03/2020 17:31

I've been locked down for 10 days now. I've deep cleaned, baked a little, knitted a lot and dug my tapestry out. I play on line games, read books on my kindle and a lot of magazines using Readly. I try not to think ahead too much although I think it may well be months.

Cross stitch, reading, home schooling my daughter and starting on Tuesday Disney+.

YorkieTheRabbit · 21/03/2020 17:38

Gardening, large garden and plenty to do. Plenty to do in the greenhouse The garage needs a good sort out. I like baking and cooking. We are lucky to have plenty of space, good size house, just the two of us and two small dogs.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 21/03/2020 17:43

Trying not to throttle my dc or dh!

Seriously though, he'll be working from home and I'll be home-teaching the dc. The rest of the time we'll be sorting the garden out, weather permitting, getting on top of the laundry mountain, watching loads of crap TV, taking photos in, around and out of the house and then editing them, knitting and playing cards.

Kermitsbiggestfan · 21/03/2020 17:45

Decorating using the paint I bought over a year ago. A painting kit my friend got me years ago. Sorting out all the clutter and the garden. Still working online and teaching DD next week.

Looking after a 4 month old who only naps on me and minding an older child with severe autism, as well as cleaning, cooking and laundry. Very envious of those who can use the time to chill out or undertake hobbies.

Lippy1234 · 21/03/2020 18:04

Watching TV
Getting depressed, I can feel it starting already.

Ginger1982 · 21/03/2020 18:11

Trying to work whilst looking after a toddler. If I didn't have a child I would love to self isolate. As such, it is going to be hell 😬

LuvMyBoyz · 21/03/2020 18:14

Socially distanced family walks (avoiding the packs of youths), reading, TV, running 2x weekly, Sunday bike rides, jigsaws

walkwalk · 21/03/2020 18:14

Yep another one with a toddler here so I will have less free time now, not more.

YgritteSnow · 21/03/2020 18:16

I'm going to plant pots and pots of veg on my roof terrace.

Teach my children.

Redecorate my flat.

Read all the books in never had time to.

Bake scones every day because my daughter loves them and they're filling. Make big cakes that will last for a week because they're so massive - as long as I can get ingredients that is.

Pick up my OU degree again.

GalleyHead · 21/03/2020 18:17

Like most people, combining a FT job with homeschooling is going to take up the vast majority of my time, plus doing grocery drops for elderly parents.

jess3817 · 21/03/2020 18:18

I'm still working at the moment but not sure that'll last past this week, and apart from having to home school the 4 children (dear god, send help🙃🙈😁) I'm hope t declutter and the cupboards of crap that has accumulated , sort out the garden, it's small but a mess, lots of baking, got some half done projects in the cupboard wich I can finish. Board games. Reading.

ComtesseDeSpair · 21/03/2020 18:19

I’m going to teach myself to code, learn Hebrew using online tutorials, read every single book I keep meaning to, paint my entire flat and get good at pressure cooker recipes. Plus alternate my distance running with sprinting to build speed and stamina as I live next to a pretty deserted part of the Thames Path.

jess3817 · 21/03/2020 18:20

Oh yes! Definitely walks , we go every Saturday on a 3 mile walk. And I run 3 times a week usually, will keep me sane if we are allowed out.

sonjadog · 21/03/2020 18:22

Going for a walk everyday. Learning a new language. Reading. Knitting.

CherryPavlova · 21/03/2020 18:23

Working mainly.

Improving French through online group conversation with French neighbour

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 21/03/2020 18:26

Working (childminder) it's going to be a long few months with both my kids at home and nowhere to go.

Puffykins · 21/03/2020 18:28

I'm homeschooling the children, who are 9 and 7. Within that, we're going to make a quilt together, plant the balcony with sweet peas and tomatoes, read a LOT of books, DS (the 9 year old) wants to make a Lego stop motion film about climate change, do puzzles and listen to talking books, build a model theatre.... I mean, we have LOADS to do.....

BrieAndChilli · 21/03/2020 18:30

I was thinking about this and I think I’ll actually have less time than normal!!

I will be working from home so will be doing normal work hours
also need to home educate 3 children at different stages so some of it will have to be done after I finished work.
House will be messier as everyone home all day so will need more cleaning, more dishes etc

ComtesseDeSpair · 21/03/2020 18:31

I will also still be working more or less my usual full time hours from home, but I usually spend four hours a day commuting, spend an hour at the gym several times a week, and go out for dinner or drinks at least three or four times a week. I suddenly have myself a hell of a lot more time on my hands even with continuing to work. The not commuting is the big one - I can exercise before work without having to get up at 5am to do it and use my evenings more productively than I’m wont to do when I get home at 8pm and just want to crash out.

delilahbucket · 21/03/2020 18:31

Cleaning and teaching ds life skills, although he is currently learning how to use CAD which could be very useful for him. I will also be trying to push sales through for my business as my numbers have dropped off a cliff. Dp isn't working as much either so he's spent the day doing various DIY bits whereas he would normally have been in work all day. Might as well get things done around the house.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 21/03/2020 18:34

We’ve got paint for DH to do the hall

Gardening

Films, playing with dc. Luckily ours are very young so happy playing inside etc, I feel for people with older dc it’s going to be a nightmare.

Drink wine...and gin...and vodka

The family time will be nice as we don’t get much of that, just wish it was better circumstances obviously
