What will you be doing during the time you will now have to spend inside

Dh and I are in the vulnerable/over 70 category so will need to spend a lot of the next few months inside so I have started knitting again and he is getting better at online jigsaws.

Dd is also at home as dgs (2 1/2)has had breathing difficulties in the past so she needs to look after him and the childminder has had to close. She is spending the time potty training him. That has not gone well so far but they could be at home for 3 months.

What ideas has anyone else got to keep occupied?

OP posts:

Learning Spanish on duo lingo, keeping my 8 month old entertained and fed, and hopefully learning how to garden.

Otterses · 21/03/2020 18:36

If anyone is a bit stuck for something to do and stuck indoors, Shout are always looking for volunteers to work from home on their crisis text line. It would fill two hours out of the week, and you feel like you've done something worthwhile Smile

I'll be looking at any free/cheap courses relevant to the next phase of my career plan, working from home around DS, and gardening.

blue25 · 21/03/2020 18:37

Gardening, sitting in the garden, reading, baking, scrapbooking, sorting out the house, exercise bike, yoga, long baths, drinking wine with a film/box set in the evenings.

We have had a Wickes order come for a garden project, 1 tin of masonry paint for outbuilding and two large tins of gloss paint for interior woodwork. When that’s done there are more diy/decorating jobs that need doing. DH looking a bit alarmedGrin

squashyhat · 21/03/2020 18:59

Watching all 7 series of The West Wing again. Perfect excuse Grin

Lots of good ideas. We go to France a lot - unfortunately our holiday in 5 weeks is cancelled - so I might try to improve my French conversation as I can understand most things but can never think how to say what I want to say.

Keeping 8 month and nearly 4 yr old entertained and educated while stuck inside. Trying to keep on top of the housework, shop and make food. Trying to get the baby to sleep some where else that isn’t me.

Bonkersblond · 21/03/2020 19:19

I have some empty photo albums and piles of photos from years back that have never been sorted. I’ve dug a veggie patch in the garden today and ordered some veggie seeds, corgettes and runner beans are fairly easy to grow, had been buying paint anyway to decorate inside so we have lots of projects on the go. Rainy days am going to go through all the kids bedrooms / cupboards and sort them out.

Squeekybummum · 21/03/2020 19:21

Just trying to do anything to tire my 3 young children out. Bike rides, football in the garden, films, reading, school work and the playstation (this last 1 probably more than what I would like) 🙉

angell74 · 24/03/2020 18:12

I’ve discovered lots of really good online fitness on YouTube and worked out how to set it up on the SMART TV.

This morning we did a PE lesson with Jo Wicks the Bodycoach (and almost a million other people around the world). Then we went for a ‘Walk at Home with Leslie Sansone’ on YouTube.

Thinking of investigating yoga with Adrianne next.

GChild · 24/03/2020 19:59

For work with children - Making up a play based on a book you have just read, make up quiz questions to ask the other members of the family, pencil and paper games like consequences and hangman, find a map of the sky and look for constellations, learn about the weather or clouds keep a weather diary, (make a wind rose , temperature graph of just a sunny or cloudy chart). Learn times tables in a fun game, Plan or go on a journey around the world using an atlas. Grow a bean plant, put a light coloured plant in water with some paint, dye or food colour and watch it change.
The possibilities are endless.

Learning to use Excel and brushing up my knowledge of the rest of the MS Office suite.

mooboy · 24/03/2020 20:44

I'll be working, walking the dog and cooking some fabulous food - if they ever deliver.

fedup21 · 24/03/2020 20:49

Gardening
Decorating
Cleaning

elshajd · 24/03/2020 20:49

Cleaning
Mumsnet
online courses
playing games
and maybe, just maybe, I'll finish my dissertation - having so much time on my hands is not motivating me to do it, I need the pressure of being busy.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 24/03/2020 21:19

Pull the kitchen and garage apart looking for the mouseholes. Then fill in the cracks with foam. Little bastards ate through the Brita filter feed line; how dare they do that to my middle class credentials?

maa1992 · 24/03/2020 21:22

All I've been doing so far is eating!!! I've managed to bring our treadmill downstairs woo

I have a 6 month old so I plan to:

Treadmill
We've started weaning so that's new
Watch Netflix
Clean
Watch more Netflix

And try not to eat the whole house

Dashel · 24/03/2020 21:36

I am working from home at the moment, so it’s that and DIY at weekends.

However if it changes I will be sanding some wooden windows, repainting some of our wood work, redecorating a bedroom and some gardening. I will also do some exercise at home and yoga with Adrienne, she is fab, and I might do an online course and I will finish spring cleaning the house.

We are trying to have a productive pandemic or otherwise I will sit watching Netflix or the news getting depressed and anxious

Trying to educate my child whilst holding down a full time job?

FreeButtonBee · 24/03/2020 21:40

Working. All bloody day and j to the night. Started at 7.30 on and off til 9, did solid 9-6 then 7 til now. Still going

Have been doing this since last Monday. And worked on and off most of the weekend (inc late and early).

It’s shit but not as shit as for my brothers who work in the NHS or friends without childcare (I had unexpectedly a lucky break so had full time care for 3 and lots of out side space).

But I’d love to read a book, cook something other than basics with chopped whatever or watch a boxset

masterchef98 · 24/03/2020 22:25

I havent even read the full OP, but can you really get online jigsaws! I really want a jigsaw at the moment. Especially one that doesnt need to be put away in between stints at it.

KayakingOnDown · 24/03/2020 22:30

I'm sick at the minute, but when I get better I'll be home schooling the kids (9 and 7), working from home, practising violin and if I have time, piano.
