I love suffered for 20 years

I take sumatriptan 50mgs and it always works.

I've taken a dose at 7 am - didn't work, took another at 11 - same thing , then tried a different packet and brand at 2.30 and not touched the sides.

I've not had the side effects, either -
No wooziness, throat tightness or drowsiness - what is going on?

Sometimes it just doesn’t work. My doctor said that if they first dose has no effect at all, not to bother with another as it won’t work. He said to expect it to work about two out of every three times.

I've taken 12 tablets every 2 months for the last 20 yrs and I've only know the 1st dose to not work once or twice. So this is really odd

Any other ideas? I read about stomach paralysis, where no tablets absorb?

If it is unusual then I would be contacting your GP/111 for advise. Anything unusual should always be checked out

I've suffer from migraine and when triptans don't help I take 3 aspirin (not the daily low dose aspirin the 300mg I think). Obviously don't try this if you have any other health conditions etc but it has always worked for me and it was advised by my GP

Have you managed to eat anything ? I used to be on similar or indeed even more and occasionally this happened. But a proper meal and a sleep normally sorted it. Not fun. Hope you feel better soon.

Have you managed to eat anything today or had any caffeine? Sometimes when sumatriptan doesn’t work for me I later have food/caffeine and it seems like that helps to kick start it and I start to get the side effects so I know it’s working.

Sometimes I also take a tablet called domperidone which helps to counter any stomach paralysis. Could be worth asking your GP about that if this happens again (and if you’re ever able to get an appointment).

12 tablets every 2 months for 20 years sounds an awful lot, my doctor told me they build up resistance easily - could it be that that’s happening?

TheQueef · 21/03/2020 17:09

I'm a sufferer.
Have you got any nasal triptans or the elusive injectable sumatriptan?

For me nasal works most of the time but if a nasal doesn't work I inject.
I've had 100% success with the injectable but my GP will only give me two a month.

cherrytree63 · 21/03/2020 17:28

For some reason Sumatriptan doesn't work for me unless I can lie down and nap for 20ish minutes. If I take one and try to keep going I feel really sick.
Are you able to lie down for a little while?
Hope you feel better soon.

Windyatthebeach · 21/03/2020 17:30

The tablets stopped working for me. Take nasal sprays now.
Very effective..

Not being if it helps my headaches went away after menopause. Like you months and months of headaches from age 27. I was addicted to the meds.
