Hi all.
Now that the uk schools have closed i now have no childcare for my son. Ive searched all over online to find out some information to see if we are entitled to any money help due to not being able to work. I cant find anything other than having to take parental leave and not get paid. Does anyone else have any information to help me out ? Im not sick so ssp isn’t available. Thank you Smile

Oh!
God I understand you.
I work in hospitality and as you know all pubs and other entertainment is closed.
So I thought that will help me out as I have a childcare and will be entitled to 80%.
So what happens - company decides that all GMs need to do site checks if all okay. Which is still bloody 48 hours ! Called to take unpaid leave answer was no. Please see what days can you do. I cant do any as I'm struggling to find a childminder as well !
Its harsh.
Well anyway apply for UC if you're definitely staying unpaid leave for some time. Not sure what would you get but worth a try.

And I mean childminder is closed due to virus. So just sending hugs here

I’m exactly the same as you OP. Desperate to have some options.

Universal credit if this means you have a low income.
What has your employer said?

WTFdidwedo · 21/03/2020 22:32

I have to do site checks too @SaritaBella but only a few hours a week and I'm probably going to have to take my children with me!

Think lots of us in the same boat. I work in the NHS and have to work but as schools are closed I have no childcare. Obviously family and friends aren't able to help out as they are isolating. I'd love to know the answer.

Homemadearmy · 22/03/2020 00:15

Bairnsmum05 schools are opening for key workers have you applied for a place?

Donz84 · 22/03/2020 07:56

Thanks for the replies, I have herd nothing from work and havnt been able to speak to anyone with it being the weekend.

I normally work 3 full days but its looking like i can only get 1 day covered by my mam.

I dont know anything about UC so i dont really understand what it is if im honest.

Yes if you work for the NHS you will be classed as a key worker and beable to get a place at school for your child/children.

Its all so very confusing and unclear. What a awful time we are all going through.

@Homemadearmy some schools are open, but not all. Our MAT is closed next week for planning, aiming to open Monday 30th. That doesn't help people for next week.
