Has this happened to anyone else, bit confused??

I have never had a facebook account, Decided last week to sign up.

I was in the middle of uploading an album of pictures when I was logged out, Was asked to confirm my identity by sending them a picture of myself, which I did. The next day I was able to get back into my account.

Filling in my info when I was logged out again, this time my account was suspended and I had to send them my id, which I did.

Just checked to see that my account has now been disabled.

I used all my own info, my name, d.o.b, where I live, my personal email, my mobile number, two forms of id (passport and driving licence) which matched all my account info and it was clear from my id and the picture of myself its the same person..

Anyone else? I'm not really sure why this has happened and never had any trouble on any other website.

why the heck would you give all that personal info to a website that's simply a data gatherer for a Big Brother society?

When the same happened to me re a required pic of myself which they got, but then lie you demanded more, I thought stuff it and cancelled. life is fine without it.

Knobblybobbly · 21/03/2020 01:13

I signed up in 2007 and we definitely did not need to give all that evidence of ID!

Are you sure you’re on a legit Facebook site?

jomaIone · 21/03/2020 01:17

Whaaaaat?? Why the hell would they ask for a photo of you for I'd? And then your driving license and passport? Think you've been had here...

Worriedaboutundiagnosed · 21/03/2020 01:21

Sounds like identity theft to me.

wtahigo · 21/03/2020 04:02

This is what I see when I log in (pic 1) and pic 2 is when I click on help center. Only joined because my family are all on it and they thought it would be handy for me to be on it as well to keep in touch more as I don't live near to any of them. I use whatsapp but none of them do so thought I would give fb a try, wish I hadn't bothered..

I’ve never heard of ID etc being necessary for a FB account

missnevermind · 21/03/2020 04:23

This is from the Facebook help. Nobody needs as much information as you were asked for. I would be worried where I had sent those details.

sueelleker · 21/03/2020 14:12

All I needed was my email address.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 21/03/2020 14:14

Never been asked for anything.

1066vegan · 21/03/2020 14:18

I've got a Facebook account. I don't think they have any personal info apart from my email address. I certainly wouldn't have given some of the info that you were persuaded to give. Sounds like fraud.

QuimJongUn · 21/03/2020 14:21

I opened a second Facebook account just last week and I didn't need any of this. It looks like possible identity theft, OP.

Maybe open an incognito window on your browser and attempt to open another account and see if the same thing happens?

GalleyHead · 21/03/2020 14:25

OP, you've been had. Could you give the exact URL of the page that asked for all this information?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 21/03/2020 14:26

Please, please tell me you didn't hand over all that personal information to an online site. You've given them everything they need to steal your identity. FB definitely does not require any form of ID.

PawPawNoodle · 21/03/2020 14:29

OP none of the above people seem to have actually checked this - both asking for a photo and to provide ID are security measures that Facebook can take to authenticate an account. A simple google can tell you that.

Did you use your real name setting up the account?

ScrumptiousBears · 21/03/2020 14:40

They sometimes ask for this if they think it's a fake account.

For various domestic violence reasons a friend of mine changed he surname on FB so an ex couldn't find her and someone reported it to FB and they did this. Because she couldn't prove ID in the "chosen" surname they refused to reenable her account.

HonestlyItsFine · 21/03/2020 14:52

Do you have the same name as a celeb?

QuillBill · 21/03/2020 15:46

Your passport and your drivers licence!

Shock
JayAlfredPrufrock · 21/03/2020 16:45

I know loads of people who have fb accounts in fake names. Hell even my dog had one.

AlCalavicci · 21/03/2020 16:53

I was never asked for any ID, just a email address when I set mine up about 2 years ago and my work mates cat has his own account .

wtahigo · 21/03/2020 20:23

Someone above asked for the link I was using, I'm not sure if I can post links so will split it up https: // www . facebook. com

I don't share a celebrity name that I know of, and I used my real name.

@wtahigo
Apparently it’s true. I just googled it. So you may not have been scammed but given the Cambridge Analytica scandal if they had asked me for all of that information I wouldn’t have supplied it.

SmallChickBilly · 22/03/2020 14:49

You definitely can be asked for all this ID through legitimate FB registration. I know that it was dead easy when I did it years ago, but I helped a friend set up an account to use for their business more recently and they asked for confirmation of their identity as apparently someone using a name similar to theirs had been using FB for nefarious purposes.

If you want the account enough, you have to jump through the hoops. If you're not bothered, don't bother. There's other social media stuff you can do that requires less ID if you prefer.
