Our solicitor has been off since Wednesday so someone else has taken over - her secretary/assistant is now dealing with everything. We’ve had the legal documents through from her (transfer, contract and title report) there’s 3 of them and every one of them had an error on, wrong sale price, partners first name not on the contract, another legal document his middle name spelt wrong, our names not printed on the exchange document and a box not ticked to say we would jointly own where all the other questions where. Apart from the one where the sale price was wrong (that’s been amended) we’ve been told to just amend these documents ourself in pen, which seems a bit odd to us both given the importance of these legal documents. Title report also stated there was no water meter when the seller has confirmed there is. We have been hoping for completion next Friday and this was requested Tuesday but once again sellers solicitor has disappeared, has been horribly unresponsive throughout the whole process and would forever avoid). I don’t even think the seller is aware we have requested this and sellers solicitor has taken weeks to reply to any other small query and if the solicitor/estate agent tried calling or email there is never any responsive. I knew this would be a horribly stressful situation but things just seem to be getting worse and seems quite unprofessional with all the mistakes and the secretary dealing with everything (this may be normal though I’m not sure?) With the current situation we’re even more concerned about the how things are going to turn out which is why we’d like to progress and complete asap. My partner rang the secretary this afternoon, totally calm and more patient than me which is why I asked him to ring and she was so rude and sarky! I had a breakdown this afternoon about everything and I can't sleep. Helpful advice welcome!

How much are you payimg for your conveyancing?

springydaff · 20/03/2020 21:59

You'd probably be better putting your post in paragraphs op. Hard to read in a block of text.

ginglebells2 · 20/03/2020 22:02

Around £1100 which is average for my area. Yes I know, sorry about the lack of punctuation. I didn't realise until I posted it.

As far as amendments are concerned all kind of very important legal documents have corrections and amendments in pen and signed by relevant parties...

Generally not impressive performance for the price - it is however exceptional circumstances.

It's good your solicitors' are still trying. Technically the office staff will remain "supervised" so indemnity will remain in place. Just make the corrections and initial. It seems your solicitors are doing their best and much will depend on the other side.

If you make manuscript amendments and both of you initial them, that will be quicker than marking them up for correction. It's perfectly acceptable.
