Council Tax Discount

Can anyone advise if I am entitled to 25% discount on my council tax before I make an application.

I live with my DD who started Uni in Sept 2018, she received a grant and works 2 mornings a week in a nursery. Her BF is an apprentice and lives with us part of the week.

Do I qualify as I am the only full time earner in the household. I didnt think I did but my eldest son says that both my DD and her BF are exempt as an apprentice and a student

Is she classed as a ft student?

2-3 nights and he is an apprentice, my DD is i think classed as a FT student, I think I will email them to ask, no harm in that I guess

As long as DD is a full-time student and boyfriend is on a proper, recognised apprentice placement then yes, you’re the only adult for council tax purposes. Usually you’ll be required to show a letter from the university stating that the course is full-time (most universities will give students a standard one) and a similar letter from the sponsor of the apprenticeship.

Bf will need to be earning less than £195.00 per week and studying for qualifications. He will need written confirmation from the apprenticeship provider. Dd will need to ask her college for a council tax student certificate. You will probably need to fill in a discount form which may be available online on your council website under council tax. Bet you can't guess what my job is 😅
