Anyone had a chest infection before?

I’ve been ill now for 2 and half weeks, cold symptoms at first which turned into chest pain. I’ve been on antibiotics now since Tuesday morning and my chest and my back still feels painful and tight. I have never had a chest infection before, so is it normal to still have tightness in the chest while on antibiotics? I’ve phoned drs but no call back and I’m not even going to bother clogging up 111. I’m just not sure if I should be worried or not.

With the usual disclaimer that no one on the internet can tell you if you're seriously ill etc etc, the two times in my life that I have had a chest infection, the symptoms lasted for several weeks and only eased after multiple courses of antibiotics, plus inhalers plus steroids.

So yes, it might be a 'normal' chest infection. Or it might be coronavirus. There is no point being a martyr though and refusing to call 111, that's what it's there for. If anything you should call because they might want to refer you for testing.

In my experience, yes. Antibiotics take some time to work. If you started them on Tuesday, I wouldn't expect all symptoms to be gone by Friday. Are you starting to feel any better at all?

I feel better in myself as all cold symptoms have gone and I’m pottering around and getting things done it’s just the tightness in my chest that’s not budging. I’m not going to bother 111 because I’m managing fine and I’ve been ill for over two weeks so if it was the virus then I’m no longer contagious and I probably would have a negative result because of the length of time that’s past from first symptoms

You've only been on antibiotics a few days. It always takes me longer than that for my chest pain to settle.

I've got this issue just now . Had the cold for about a week and a bit and they think I have asthma but can't test on it just now so because I'm saying I have a right chest but doesn't stop me from doing things that they'll give me a prescription for amoxicillin yesterday but need to wait until tomorrow to collect . I have no fever or constant cough , only cough to bring up phlegm at night motley.

How you feeling now x

I have had frequent chest infections, I find sleeping fairly upright on loads of pillows helps hugely, plus regular inhalation of steam/olbas oil, plus taking Vogel's Echinaforce Echinacea drops and a zinc supplement helps lot

Sounds like you might have Covid. My symptoms were similar. I took antibiotics and they didn't work, because it's a viral infection.
